Belgium vs Egypt Best Bets
Belgium to win to nil — 7/5
Belgium conceded just seven goals in qualifying and are unbeaten in 13 matches. With Egypt's attack relying heavily on Salah and Marmoush, who both struggled for their clubs late in the season, the Red Devils look well placed to keep a clean sheet.
Under 2.5 goals — 4/5
Belgium conceded seven times and Egypt only twice in World Cup qualifying. Both sides have shown a tendency to grind out results and a low-scoring affair looks the most likely outcome in Seattle.
Belgium vs Egypt Match Preview
Perennial World Cup dark horses Belgium begin their World Cup campaign at Lumen Field in Seattle on Monday when they take on Egypt.
The majority of Belgium's golden generation have now retired but there is still a sense that the Red Devils can enjoy a fruitful summer, mainly because the draw was remarkably kind to Rudi Garcia's men. On paper at least, Belgium's opening game against the Pharaohs is their toughest as they then face an Iran side who have had a tumultuous preparation and New Zealand, who are expected to make up the numbers in the section.
Belgium have based themselves at the Seattle Sounders Performance Centre, and with all of their games on the west coast of North America, the bulk of their travelling will not come until the latter stages of the tournament — should they make it. The Red Devils topped their qualifying group but rarely had to get out of second gear to finish above Wales, North Macedonia, Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein.
They did so without a number of star players due to injury, so it will have pleased head coach Rudi Garcia that they were able to remain unbeaten in qualifying, winning five of their eight matches. Thibaut Courtois, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne are the last members of Belgium's golden generation still standing, but there is a core group of emerging talent coming through led by Manchester City livewire Jeremy Doku.
Belgium last lost a game in March 2025, some 13 matches ago, and they warmed up for the World Cup by beating Croatia 2-0 and Tunisia 5-0. There was little shame in Egypt's 2-1 loss to Brazil in their final friendly, but there is pressure on the Pharaohs ahead of their fourth World Cup appearance.
Egypt failed to qualify in 2022 and last progressed to the knockout stages in 1934. Yet with Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush leading from the front, Egyptian fans will expect to make it out of a fairly weak group. The concern is that their star duo struggled for their clubs in the latter stage of the season. Salah was a shadow of the player who inspired Liverpool to the Premier League title two seasons ago, while Marmoush was used only sparingly by Manchester City.
Despite winning a record seven African championships, Egypt have always struggled on the world stage and have never won a game at a World Cup. Hossam Hassan's team cruised through qualifying, winning all ten of their games, and matches against Iran and New Zealand give them a chance of ending their World Cup hoodoo.
However, it seems unlikely that they will break their duck in their first match as Belgium appear to have found a winning formula and conceded only seven goals in qualifying. Egypt were also tough to break down, conceding only twice, so the Red Devils may have to settle for a modest success.
With that in mind, a Belgium win to nil looks a logical bet and it wouldn't be a surprise if they were victorious by either a 1-0 or 2-0 scoreline, making under 2.5 goals a decent alternative wager.
