Germany are the big-hitters in Group E at the 2026 World Cup with the four-time champions expecting to top a section also featuring Curacao, Ivory Coast and Ecuador. We have analysis of each of the four teams' prospects with a trio of value bets as well. The latest 2026 World Cup odds are available on LiveScore Bet

Germany

Julian Nagelsmann's Germany, ranked 10th in the world, made light work of qualifying and have been scoring goals for fun in the build-up to the finals. The return of World Cup winner Manuel Neuer in goal adds more experience to a group already boasting established stars like Antonio Rudiger, Joshua Kimmich and Jonathan Tah. Nagelsmann hopes the magic happens up front, however, with Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala fit enough after a long lay-off to add options to an attack also featuring Leroy Sane, Kai Havertz and another Munich starlet Lennart Karl.

Curacao

At No.82 in the rankings, World Cup debutants Curacao are the real minnows in this section - but they are dreaming big. In Dutchman Dick Advocaat they have a coach who has taken two nations to World Cups before and won league titles in three different countries. He and the Curacao FA have also raided the Netherlands for reinforcements for these finals and the likes of Leandro Bacuna, Jurgen Locadia and Tahith Chong bring big-league nous to the group.

Ivory Coast

The Elephants, world ranked No.34, are back for a fourth World Cup and determined to improve on a trio of group-stage exits in 2006, 2010 and 2014. A defence built around Serie A duo Odilon Kossounou and Evan Ndicka should be formidable while former AC Milan and Barcelona star Franck Kessie is an impressive anchor in midfield.

The potential excitement, however, comes up front with a glut of pacy, skilful frontmen, the pick of the lot being 19-year-old Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande.

Ecuador

Ecuador look a threat under the radar having qualified in second spot behind Argentina (and therefore in front of Brazil) in South America. They woill not have the altitude advantage they enjoy for home games in Quito but La Tri will surely be confident they can match their feat of 2006 when they reached the last 16. Sebastian Beccacece's team are unbeaten in almost two years, a record built on an astonishingly miserly defence which, from September 2024 to September 2025, conceded only one goal in 11 internationals.

Who will win World Cup Group E?

Germany have the players, the pedigree, the history - but they also have the scars of back-to-back group-stage flops at the past two World Cups. Those blemishes under a previous management should not weigh this group down and they clearly merit being favourites. But head coach Julian Nagelsmann does not have the universal backing of this football-mad nation and they need to show more than they have to justify a short price. Curacao, despite the fact they could cause a few headaches, are ruled out but Ivory Coast and Ecuador are probably being under-rated. Ecuador, in particular, look a genuine danger given a defence that over recent months has kept clean sheets against the likes of Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina. A defence starring PSG's Willian Pacho, AC Milan's Pervis Estupinan and Arsenal's Piero Hincapie has plenty of credit while midfielder Moises Caicedo is a driving force for Chelsea in the Premier League. They still rely on veteran Enner Valencia for goals - but the 36-year-old just keeps on scoring. One win and a couple of draws might be all it takes to win this group and Ecuador are more than capable given their organisation and strength.

Who will qualify from World Cup Group E?

If Ecuador look destined to go through then so too should Germany, who simply cannot tolerate a third straight group-stage exit. Ivory Coast are also in good form going into these finals as they seek to get through the group for the first time at the fourth attempt. It is dangerous to write off Curacao, but if they are caught in the headlights and suffer three straight losses then all three - Ecuador, Germany and Ivory Coast - should progress.

Who will be the top scorer of World Cup Group E?

Germany, without a world-class out-and-out striker, look like a team who could be sharing the goals around. Having said that, Kai Havertz might now turn into Miroslav Klose, though the feeling is he might not. This does look like a group where goals against Curacao could be decisive and Enner Valencia, Ecuador's penalty-taking captain, gets the nod. He is already his country's record scorer, has been on target for La Tri this year and has found the net six times at two previous World Cups so can take the honours.
