Spain
Luis de la Fuente's men broke England's hearts in the final of Euro 2024, having beaten tournament hosts Germany and France in their quarter-final and semi-final ties.
Spain cruised through 2026 World Cup qualifying, winning their first five matches by an aggregate score of 17-0 before a 2-2 draw with Turkey on matchday six.
They have also reached two Nations League finals under De la Fuente, beating Croatia on penalties in 2023 but losing last summer's shootout against Portugal.
Wingers Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams are likely to be eased into the tournament as they recover from late-season injuries.
However, Spain's strength in midfield means they should dominate possession and dictate the tempo of games, which will be a huge advantage in hot conditions.
Cape Verde
Cape Verde are appearing at their first World Cup, having sealed their place at the finals thanks to a 3-0 win over Eswatini in October 2025.
They had beaten a star-studded Cameroon side 1-0 in their previous home qualifier and kept seven clean sheets in 10 matches during the campaign.
The return to fitness of Villarreal centre-back Logan Costa strengthens that defence and experienced coach Bubista has been in charge since January 2020.
Cape Verde upset the odds at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, winning their group ahead of Egypt and Ghana, but they face another daunting challenge in Group H.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia's 2022 World Cup campaign started with a bang as they came from behind to beat Lionel Messi's Argentina 2-1.
However, subsequent defeats to Poland and Mexico condemned them to a group-stage exit and their build-up to the 2026 finals has not been smooth.
The Saudis stumbled past Indonesia and Iraq in the fourth round of qualifying and coach Herve Renard stepped down in April, leaving his successor Georgios Donis with limited time to prepare for the tournament.
Uruguay
The World Cup qualifying competition in South America is a marathon not a sprint and Uruguay burst out of the blocks with four wins in their first six games.
They defeated Brazil and Argentina late in 2023 but Marcelo Bielsa's men have lost their way since then and last year's 5-1 friendly defeat to the USA was a troubling result.
Veterans Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have retired from international duty and first-choice striker Darwin Nunez is short of football, having been dropped from Al-Hilal's Saudi Pro League squad at the start of the year.
Uruguay's defence is strong and Real Madrid's Federico Valverde provides some magic in midfield but there are major doubts over their forward line.

Who will win World Cup Group H?
Spain are understandably short-priced favourites to win Group H after winning Euro 2024 and cruising through their World Cup qualifying campaign.
Their defence is not as strong as the great team who won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but they have an exceptional midfield featuring Pedri, Rodri, Gavi, Fabian Ruiz, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Dani Olmo.
While Uruguay have struggled under Bielsa recently, they have the defensive grit to secure second place in the section.
Atletico Madrid's Jose Maria Gimenez and Barcelona's Ronald Araujo form a solid centre-back partnership and La Celeste should grind out wins over Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde in their first two games.
Who will finish bottom of World Cup Group H?
Cape Verde's defensive record in qualifying was impressive and they could pip Saudi Arabia to third place in Group H.
The Saudis struggled in qualifying, finishing a long way behind Japan and Australia in their third-round group, and changing managers two months before the tournament is hardly ideal.
Only one member of their 26-man squad plays his club football in Europe and the 2034 World Cup hosts look set for a forgettable trip to North America.

Who will be the top goalscorer from World Cup Group H?
Spain averaged more than three goals per game during qualifying, hammering a talented Turkey side 6-0, and they should dominate the scoring in Group H.
Arsenal's Merino was the surprise joint-top scorer for La Roja with six qualifying goals but he has only just returned from a long-term injury.
Instead, back striker Mikel Oyarzabal to top the goal chart in this section. The Real Sociedad frontman also struck six times in six qualifying starts, having scored Spain's late winner against England in the Euro 2024 final.
Oyarzabal had a fine club season, scoring 18 goals in 35 league and cup outings for Real Sociedad, and Spain's superb creative midfielders should create plenty of chances for him.
