The 20 teams in Serie A play a 38-game season. Each club plays every other team twice, once at their home stadium and once away, following a double round-robin format.
Three teams are relegated to Serie B. The teams that finish in 18th, 19th, and 20th place at the end of the season are automatically relegated. They are replaced by the top two teams from Serie B, plus the winner of the promotion play-offs.
