Sheffield United continued their ascent up the table with a 2-0 win over QPR on Saturday and now sit 13th in the standings, nine points outside of the play-off places.

West Brom are on a downward spiral and have not won a Championship match since the end of December.

The Baggies suffered a 2-1 defeat to Oxford United last weekend and are now just a single point above the relegation zone with 11 games remaining.

Team news

Blades’ midfielder Kalvin Phillips is still suspended following his red card against Sheffield Wednesday last month, while Tom Davies is ruled out with a hamstring problem.

West Brom are hopeful Karlan Grant can return before  the end of the season following hamstring surgery, although that may not be the case for Mikey Johnston who suffered a stress fracture in his leg that could see him miss the rest of the season.

The stats

West Brom won the reverse fixture 2-0 at The Hawthorns in December for their first league win over the Blades since 2021, with United having won three and drawing two of the previous five Championship games.

Wilder’s men are on a decent run of form, winning five of their last eight league matches which includes a 3-1 win over Ipswich, with the two defeats in that run coming against the top two.

The Baggies have already lost seven league games so far in 2026, while their only success this year has come via a penalty shootout win over Swansea in the FA Cup.

United have scored 50 goals in the second tier this season, the most outside of the top eight and 16 more than West Brom.

Callum O’Hare is Sheffield United’s top scorer in the Championship with nine goals, although Patrick Bamford has scored eight despite only joining in November.

Aune Heggebo leads the way for West Brom with eight Championship goals.

Prediction

Chris Wilder should be relishing a home clash against a sliding West Brom that is struggling with the heat of a relegation battle, having not won since December.

If the Blades hold any serious ambitions of reaching the play-off places then this is a game in which three points are an absolute must.

While the hosts should have enough offensive firepower to secure the three points, they have been far from water-tight at the back with just two clean sheets in their last 14 games, and the desperate Baggies can at least get on the scoresheet.
