Chelsea are set to hand Moises Caicedo a new contract, reaffirming his commitment to the club in the process, reports the Telegraph.

Caicedo moved to Stamford Bridge in 2023 for a then-British record fee of £115m and while he initially struggled in the opening months of his time in London, the Ecuador international has since gone on to become a key player for the Blues.

And his performances in the middle of the park didn’t go unnoticed, with La Liga giants Real Madrid previously credited with an interest in Caicedo.

'You never know in football'

Speaking to AS earlier this month, Caicedo was asked if he can “imagine himself in white”, while his response hardly settled Chelsea nerves.

“You never know in football, don't you think? I have a contract with Chelsea now. The truth is, I haven't honestly thought about another club, about leaving London, but well, in the end, you never know in football,” the former Brighton man said.

“All I want is to enjoy myself. I have a contract and I want to keep playing as long as God allows. After that, we'll see what happens. I have a contract, but we'll see what the future holds. Let's see what surprises await us.”

While Caicedo’s comments appeared to leave the door open to a potential move to the Bernabeu, his new contract should put to rest any questions over his future in the capital.

Caicedo expected to sign new Blues deal

Caicedo was reportedly in line for a new deal at the end of last season, but issues with his representation meant talks were put on hold.

Now represented by Base Agency, who look after Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer, the 24-year-old is now expected to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge before long.

The news comes as a boost for the club, who had come under pressure from first-team stars Enzo Fernandez and Marc Cucurella, who have recently raised doubts over the direction of the club.

Chelsea struggling under Rosenior

Chelsea resume league duties with the welcome of Manchester United on Saturday night as they look to improve upon their recent downturn in form.

The Blues have lost five of their last six matches in all competitions following last weekend’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, a run of form that saw them unceremoniously dumped out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain.
