There is all to play for at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday when Wrexham have a great chance of booking their place in the Championship playoffs against Middlesbrough.

It is possible that the Red Dragons could win but still be overhauled by Hull if the Tigers post a big home victory over Norwich, while a win and a series of other results could even see Boro go straight into the Premier League alongside champions Coventry.

It all adds up to what could be a cracking game in North Wales which is one of the picks of the second-tier final-day fixtures.

Team news

Wrexham will be without Liberto Cacace and Zak Vyner and manager Phil Parkinson is unlikely to make many changes from the team that lost to champions Coventry last time out.

Alex Bangura and Matt Targett will hope to force their way into the Middlesbrough starting line-up. Riley McGree is doubtful while Hayden Hackney is struggling with a calf injury.

The stats

Wrexham have failed to score in only one of their last 14 Championship matches.

The Red Dragons have kept two clean sheets in their last 13 home league outings.

Eight of Boro’s last nine away matches have featured at least three goals.

Over 3.5 goals has been a winning bet in five of Boro’s last six road matches.

The visitors have failed to net in just one of their last nine away games.

The only defeat Middlesbrough have suffered in their last nine games on the road came at Championship winners Coventry.

Prediction

The rewards are sufficient for both Wrexham and Middlesbrough to be positive in their Saturday lunchtime clash and it seems highly unlikely that the final-day Championship final-day fixture will disappoint.

The Red Dragons are sixth but know that even a win might not be enough to ensure they extend their season so a close eye will be kept on what is going on at Hull and they are unlikely to ease off.

However, Middlesbrough have to be on the front foot because they could squeeze into the top two and reach the promised land of the Premier League without having to worry about playoff anxiety.

Five of Boro’s last six away matches have featured at least four goals and they will be encouraged by the fact Wrexham have struggled to keep clean sheets at the Racecourse.

So it seems logical to expect there to be goals with such big prizes available to both teams, so do not expect this appetising clash to disappoint.
