Swansea City suffered a 2-0 defeat to Derby County last time out, but the Swans remain just six points behind the Rams in sixth place.

As such, a victory over Bristol City on Saturday afternoon could see them vault up the table.

The Robins come into this match on the back of a 2-2 draw against Wrexham in midweek, where they were trailing 2-1 until a late equaliser from Max Bird salvaged a point for the home side.

After that match, the Robins remain firmly in contention for a play-off spot heading into this cross-border showdown in South Wales.

Team news

The home side will be missing Adam Idah and Zeidane Inoussa for this clash, with the duo expected to be out until the end of February at least.

New Zealand midfielder Marko Stamenic is suspended for this match, having picked up ten bookings in the Championship already this season.

For the visitors Luke McNally will not return until the end of the month due to a knee ligament injury.

Rob Atkinson is also out until the end of February, while Jason Knight is out for longer and is not expected back until at the least the end of April.

The stats

The last time these two sides met in the Championship, Bristol outclassed the Swans in a 3-0 victory.

Across 14 matches since the start of 2020, however, the head-to-head between the two has been close. Both clubs have won five games each, with the other four being drawn.

Swansea have scored 38 goals in the Championship this season, although they have conceded 39 times.

The Robins have a better attacking record, netting 45 goals in the league, but they have conceded 40 goals in 32 matches.

Swans manager Vitor Matos will be relying on striker Zan Vipotnik to provide the cutting edge on Saturday.

The Slovenian has netted 15 goals across 30 Championship matches this season, with his overall goal contributions counting 45 per cent of Swansea's league goals.

With Bristol conceding 18 goals away from home, Vipotnik will be eager to pounce on a defence that is prone to lapses.

Prediction

This match will certainly be a tight affair, especially with not much separating the clubs in the league table.

With 14 games left for both teams, three points this weekend could bolster their chances of finishing in the play-offs come the end of the campaign.

Vipotnik could be the key man in this game. He has scored five goals in his previous six Championship appearances, chipping in with an assist as well.

Expect him to get on the scoresheet in South Wales on Saturday afternoon.
