Will Still has found life tough since being appointed Southampton manager
  • Southampton have won just two of their nine Championship clashes

  • Swansea have lost only two of their last 11 matches

  • Recommended bet: Swansea or draw double chance

It has been a slow start to life as Southampton manager for Will Still, with the south-coast side sitting 17th in the Championship, having won just two of their opening nine league games.

With Premier League parachute payments coming their way after last season’s relegation, many Southampton supporters would have expected more and it leaves Still under pressure to come out firing after the international break.

However, Southampton have failed to win any of their last three league games at St Mary’s and their latest visitors Swansea will sense an opportunity to add to their early-season struggles.

Alan Sheehan’s Swans are only one point better off than Southampton but they have won on two of their last three away trips to Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn and they have lost just twice in their last 11 matches in all competitions.

Team news

Southampton remain without Samuel Edozie and Welington while Ross Stewart is set for a spell on the sidelines after liming off in the first half of the 1-1 draw at Derby prior to the international break.

Swansea defender Ricardo Santos is a long-term absentee, otherwise they have a clean bill of health with Adam Idah and Zan Viptonik having successfully overcome their early-season struggles.

The stats

Southampton have won only two of their first nine Championship matches, taking only two points from their last three outings at St Mary’s.

The Saints have played out four draws in their last seven matches.

Swansea have lost only two of their last 11 matches in all competitions, with those defeats coming to Birmingham and Leicester.

Both teams have scored in each of Southampton’s last five matches while the net has bulged at both ends in seven of Swansea’s last nine.

Southampton are unbeaten in six meetings with Swansea, winning on four occasions.

Each of the last five meetings between these sides have gone over 2.5 goals.

Swansea’s striker Zan Viptonik has seven goals in his last 13 appearances for club and country.

Southampton forward Adam Armstrong has scored in three of his last five appearances.

Prediction

Southampton are yet to put their best foot forward under Still, who is still working out his best team and trying to deploy the tactics that served him so well in Ligue 1 with Reims and Lens.

The Saints have dropped points in their last three home league games to Stoke, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough and they may struggle to find the right formula against Swansea.

The Welsh visitors have not been beaten by a bad side this season, with their losses coming against big-spending Birmingham and top-three pair Middlesbrough and Leicester, and they have the right balance to pick up a positive result against underfire opponents on the south coast.

Back Swansea or draw double chance at 10/13 with LiveScore Bet.
