Belgian head coach Philippe Clement has overseen a massive change of fortunes for Norwich City.
  • Norwich sit tenth in the Championship table after three wins from their last four games

  • Portsmouth stand just one point outside the relegation zone

  • Recommended bet: Norwich to win

Norwich City occupy tenth place in the Championship table after a superb run of results under Philippe Clement.

The Canaries sit nine points outside the play-off spots, but a winning run could give them an outside chance of sneaking in if other results fall their way.

For Pompey, however, avoiding relegation is the ultimate aim, as the south coast side occupy 21st place and are a solitary point above the drop zone.

Team news

Norwich defender Ruairi McConville withdrew from the Northern Ireland squad ahead of their friendly international against Wales in midweek, sparking fears that he will miss the Pompey clash.

He joins a massive list of players who will miss this match.

Harry Amass, Ante Crnac, Papa Diallo, Shane Duffy, Gabriel Forsyth, Matej Jurasek,Lucien Mahovo, Jovon Makama, Jeffrey Schlupp, Oscar Schwartau, Mirko Topic and Mohamed Toure all remain on the treatment table.

Pompey also have several first-team players absent.

Ajibola Alese, Keshi Anderson, Florian Bianchini, Andre Dozzell, Josh Knight, Mark Kosznovszky, Josh Murphy Franco Umeh and Thomas Waddington will be unavailable for the trip to Carrow Road this Saturday.

The stats

Meetings between these two clubs have been few and far between over the previous two decades.

Since the start of the 2004/05 campaign, there have been eight matches between these two sides and Pompey actually lead the head-to-head 3-2, with the other three games ending as draws.

The Canaries did win the reverse fixture earlier this season at Fratton Park and this game gives them a chance to complete a league double over their opponents for the first time since the 2001/02 season.

Norwich have scored 52 Championship goals compared to Pompey's tally of 37, yet Clement's side have conceded 46 times, only eight more than the visitors.

Clement has led his team to five league victories across their previous six games, with only a defeat to Southampton spoiling that run.

Portsmouth, on the other hand, have not won a game in the second tier since a 3-1 victory over Millwall on February 21st.

That result has been followed by five defeats and a draw.

Prediction

Although both sides are missing a number players, Norwich enter the game as favourites to continue their ascent up the Championship table.

A play-off spot might be a tad unrealistic, although another three points this weekend might ask the question of those around them in the table.

Pompey are in desperate need of a win and a 5-3 victory here in April 2025 might just give John Mousinho some confidence ahead of the trip to East Anglia.

Going by the form table, however, expect the Canaries to secure all three points on Saturday afternoon.
