After Saturday’s match with Portsmouth was abandoned, Charlton are back in action at The Valley when they host Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.

The Addicks have lost their last four matches and host a Middlesbrough side who are second in the Championship table.

Team news

Charlton are set to be without five players for this contest, with Reece Burke, Matty Godden, Charlie Kelman, Amari’i Bell and Joshua Edwards sidelined due to injury.

Middlesbrough are missing Luke Ayling, Dael Fry, Darragh Lenihan and Aidan Morris, but Alan Browne could return after missing the last game through illness.

The stats

Charlton have scored 18 goals in the Championship, only Portsmouth (15) and Sheffield Wednesday (14) have netted fewer times.

Middlesbrough boast the joint second-best away record in the division, collecting 16 points from 10 matches.

The Addicks have lost just twice at home in the league this season, with 14 of their 23 points coming at The Valley.

Boro have won the last two meetings against Charlton, recording 1-0 wins in the 2019-20 campaign.

Prediction

Charlton had acclimatised well to life back in the Championship after five seasons away and appeared to be holding their own during the opening three months of the campaign.

However, the wheels have started to fall off after suffering four defeats in a row, with 12 goals conceded during this barren period.

Manager Nathan Jones will be eager for his team to show character and bounce back from those setbacks but his side now come up against a Middlesbrough side who won 4-1 away at Hull on Friday and are eyeing automatic promotion.

That triumph came off the back of a 2-1 success over Derby and new boss Kim Hellberg has made the perfect start to his tenure, taking the maximum six points on offer.

With Boro looking threatening and Charlton fragile at the back, an away win with over 2.5 goals is the selection.
