We were forced to take a little break due to NFL Free Agency and March Madness, but now we have returned with our weekly schedule of things to watch. We’re in the home stretch of the NHL and NBA seasons. Also, the MLB season is now underway. And of course, the Final Four takes place on Saturday. With all of this in mind, here are the biggest sporting events taking place during the week of March 30th.

Monday

NHL

Pittsburgh Penguins @ New York Islanders at 7:00 p.m. on NHL Network.

Only one point separates the Isles and the Pens in the playoff race, with New York controlling the second seed in the Metropolitan Division while Pittsburgh is the number-three seed. On top of that, the Columbus Blue Jackets have 88 points on the season while the Philadelphia Flyers have 86. A win for either the Islanders or Penguins will go a long way toward securing a playoff spot.

One question that will be answered: Will New York's fourth-ranked goaltending (2.76 goals allowed per game) stymy Pittsburgh's seventh-ranked offense (3.38 goals per game)?

NBA

Detroit Pistons @ Oklahoma City Thunder at 9:30 p.m. EDT on Peacock and NBCSN.

We get a potential preview of the NBA Finals later tonight when the Oklahoma City Thunder play host to the Detroit Pistons. Since the 2026 All-Star Break, the Thunder have the second-best record in the league (17-2), while the Pistons rank sixth in that category (14-7). Detroit probably will lose this game since MVP candidate Cade Cunningham is out with an injury, but if they can keep this thing close, that could be a huge confidence boost for this team ahead of the postseason. Still, the Thunder need to stay on top of things with the Spurs two-and-a-half games back from them in the playoff race.

One question that will be answered: The Pistons have the seventh-best offense in the NBA since the All-Star Game (118.2 points per game), but will it be enough to beat OKC, which is third in defense during that stretch (106.3 points per game allowed)?

Tuesday

NHL

Montreal Canadiens @ Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN+.

Another excellent matchup in the National Hockey League will take place between two Atlantic Division foes. The Montreal Canadiens have 94 points and trail the Tampa Bay Lightning by just four points for first place in the division. With the Boston Bruins hot on both of their tails, Tampa and Montreal both need a win here. This game might be more important for the Canadiens, who only have a two-point lead over the Bruins in the Eastern Conference standings.

One question that will be answered: How will Montreal's Cole Caufield (second in the league in goals, 46) fare against Tampa goalie Andrei Vasilevsky (fourth in the NHL in save percentage, .913)?

MLB

New York Yankees @ Seattle Mariners at 9:40 p.m. EDT on TBS.

It's obviously very early in a long MLB season, but this three-game series between the Yanks and the Mariners could impact the playoff standings when the postseason begins. After all, we have both of these squads winning their divisions. We also get to see two of the best power hitters in baseball go against each other in Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh. Seattle is the second-best home-run-hitting team in the league (eight), but New York has the lowest ERA in the majors (0.33). This will be an awesome battle early in the MLB season.

One question that will be answered: Will Cal Raleigh, last year's home run leader, hit his first homer of the 2026 season?

NBA

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Los Angeles Lakers @ 10:30 p.m. EDT.

The Cavs and Lakers have been two of the hottest teams in the NBA recently. Cleveland is 7-3 in its last ten games, while the Lakers are 9-1 during that stretch. Since February 28th, LA has the second-highest winning percentage in the league (.875). It shouldn't come as a shock that Luka Dončić is leading the NBA in points per game since that date (36.5). However, the Cavaliers are right there with the Lakers in terms of scoring since they're seventh in the league in points per game since February 28th (119.2). With the league's best scorer on one side and the NBA's third-best offense on the other, there will be no shortage of fireworks in this one.

One question that will be answered: After being suspended for Monday's game against the Washington Wizards, will Luka Dončić explode for 40+ points on Tuesday night to show the league he's not to be messed with?

Wednesday

NBA

Boston Celtics @ Miami Heat at 7:30 p.m. EDT on ESPN.

The return of Jayson Tatum to the lineup has been huge for Boston, which is tied with Los Angeles for the fourth-highest winning percentage in the NBA since the All-Star Break (.750). The C's have already clinched a playoff spot, but the Heat are desperately clinging to the ninth seed in the East and a potential berth in the NBA Play-In Tournament. With a win, they could leapfrog the Orlando Magic and take control of the eighth seed in the East. This could be a huge game down the stretch since Miami is only two-and-a-half games back from the Atlanta Hawks for the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs.

One question that will be answered: Will the Heat's offense (third in points per game since the 2026 All-Star Break, 122.2) be able to score effectively on Boston's elite defense (fewest points per game allowed since All-Star Weekend, 102.7)?

Thursday

NHL

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Tampa Bay Lightning at 7:00 p.m. EDT on ESPN+.

We already know that the Lightning sit in first place in the Atlantic Division (98 points), and the Penguins are third in the Metro with 88 points. This matchup is more important for the teams NOT involved in this game. The Columbus Blue Jackets are looking to overtake the Penguins for third place in the division, while the Buffalo Sabres are sitting in second place in the Atlantic because the Lightning currently has the tiebreaker over them. Either way, a lot of teams in the Eastern Conference will be tuning into this one.

One question that will be answered: In a game that won't feature a lot of defense since Tampa and Pittsburgh have allowed the third and fourth-most goals in the NHL since the Olympic Break (63 and 62, respectively), which goalie will show up for their team?

NBA

Los Angeles Lakers @ Oklahoma City Thunder at 9:30 p.m. EDT on Prime Video.

The two best teams in the NBA since the beginning of March will face off this week. LA and OKC only have three losses between them and a .897 winning percentage since the start of the month. We already know how great Luka Dončić has been, but the Thunder's Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has also been phenomenal, averaging the third-most points per game in the league since All-Star Weekend (29.5). This will be a battle between an immovable force and an unstoppable object when LA and its sixth-ranked offense (120.3 points per game since the start of March) goes against the Thunder's second-ranked defense (104.9 points per game allowed since March 1st).

One question that will be answered: Who will score more points: Luka Dončić (33.7 ppg, first in the NBA) or Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (31.4 ppg, second in the NBA)?

Friday

NHL

Philadelphia Flyers @ New York Islanders at 7:00 p.m. EDT on NHL Network.

It's not the sexiest matchup, but both teams have something to play for. With 89 points, the Isles are in the thick of the playoff hunt and need to keep pace with Pittsburgh and Columbus. Meanwhile, the Flyers are not out of it just yet. They have 86 points, and could easily catch the third-place Penguins, who are only two points ahead of them in the standings. Hell, if Philly wins this one, there's a chance they could avoid the Wild Card and be one of the three Metropolitan teams to earn a playoff berth.

One question that will be answered: Will Matthew Schaefer set the single-season rookie record for goals by a defenseman with his 24th of the season?

Saturday

NHL

Colorado Avalanche @ Dallas Stars at 3:00 p.m. EDT on ABC.

Both of these teams have already clinched playoff berths. Therefore, this game will go towards determining not just who wins the Central Division, but who winds up with the best record in the NHL and the Presidents' Trophy. This is the final regular-season game of the 2025-26 campaign between the Avalanche and the Stars. Considering only six points separate these two squads, and Dallas has just eight games left before the end of the regular season, they will need to pull this one off if they want any shot at winning the third Presidents' Trophy in franchise history.

One question that will be answered: Can the Avalanche tie up the regular-season series 2-2, or will the Stars go into the playoffs with the season series in hand?

College Basketball

#3 Illinois vs. #2 UConn at 6:09 p.m. EDT on TBS, HBO Max, and truTV.

The first game of the Final Four will be between the Fighting Illini and the Huskies. The history of these teams couldn't be more different. For UConn, this is their third Final Four appearance in the last four years. Meanwhile, Illinois is participating in its first Final Four since 2005 as the team looks to reach its second National Championship Game in program history. We will find out who will be moving on to the title game scheduled for next Monday.

One question that will be answered: Will the Fighting Illini's top-ranked offense (131.8 KenPom rating) be too much for the Huskies' defense, which ranks 11th in the country in points allowed per game (65.2)?

#1 Michigan vs. #1 Arizona in the Final Four at 8:49 p.m. EDT on TBS, HBO Max, and truTV.

Our second Final Four matchup will be between the two remaining number-one seeds in the NCAA Tournament. This is Michigan's first Final Four berth since 2018, but Arizona fans are probably more excited to be here since this is the furthest the Wildcats have made it in the tournament since 2001. Also, this contest features two Conference Players of the Year: Michigan's senior forward Yaxel Lendeborg and Arizona senior guard Jaden Bradley. Both of those guys will play a huge part in this matchup and will likely be the reason one of these teams moves on to the NCAA Championship Game.

One question that will be answered: With Michigan and Arizona ranking first and second in KenPom defensive ratings, respectively, will these teams combine for at least 157 total points?

Sunday

MLB

Miami Marlins @ New York Yankees at 1:35 p.m. EDT on MLB.TV.

Things could certainly change by the time Saturday rolls around, but if these squads continue to perform the way they have since the regular season started, then this will be a matchup between two of the MLB's five remaining undefeated teams. The Yankees and Marlins are both 3-0 this season. Miami has gotten here because of consistent batting (fourth-best batting average in the league, .280) and pitching (tied for third in team ERA, 2.00). However, the Yankees have only allowed one run so far this season.

One question that will be answered: Which team's bullpen will earn the victory since both squads already have two saves apiece this season?

NHL

Boston Bruins @ Philadelphia Flyers at 3:30 p.m. EDT on TNT, HBO Max, and truTV.

The B's have a meaningful lead in the race for the playoffs over the Flyers, but that's what makes this game so important. Though Philly has 86 points, a win in this matchup is basically worth four points rather than two. This contest carries extra weight because this is the third and final matchup of the season between these two squads, so the winner will own a tiebreaker if these teams finish the year with the same number of points in the Eastern Conference standings.

One question that will be answered: Which unit will perform better: Philly's defense (second-fewest goals allowed since the Olympic Break, 38) or Pittsburgh's offense (11th-most goals scored since the Olympic Break, 56)?
