Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Ready to Sell Yoane Wissa 12 Months After £55m Arrival

Newcastle United are prepared to cash in on striker Yoane Wissa, less than a year after spending £55m to bring the DR Congo international to St. James’ Park, reports The Athletic.
The Magpies sanctioned the signing of the forward as they braced themselves for Alexander Isak’s British record move to Liverpool.
Wissa and Nick Woltemade both made the move to Newcastle last summer to soften the blow of Isak’s departure, the latter arriving from VfB Stuttgart.
Injury issues hampered Wissa's impact
However, Wissa has struggled for consistency and game time following his decision to leave Brentford.
The 29-year-old, who scored 19 league goals and provided an additional four assists last season, has bagged just one league goal for Eddie Howe’s side.
A knee injury sustained on international duty shortly after his arrival prevented Wissa from making his Newcastle debut until December.
In the time since, Wissa has made just four league starts having dropped behind Woltemade and William Osula in the pecking order, with Newcastle now prepared to cut their losses on the former Bees man.
Wissa is keen to remain at St. James’ Park but club chiefs are happy to sanction his sale less than a year after signing for the Magpies.
Wissa is unlikely to be the only departure at Newcastle this summer with a number of first team stars expected to leave when the transfer window opens.
Magpies braced for summer exodus
Winger Anthony Gordon has been linked with a high-profile exit, with Arsenal, Liverpool and Bayern Munich keeping tabs on the England international.
Midfielder Sandro Tonali, who was reportedly on Arsenal’s radar with a view to a deadline day move to the Emirates, is another expected to depart the club in the off-season.
The Italian has been heavily linked with a move away from St. James’ Park in the months since as Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City monitor the midfielder’s situation.
Additionally, Woltemade, Bruno Guimaraes and Malick Thiaw are also wanted by a number of Europe’s heavy hitters.
One player who will leave Newcastle this summer is right-back Kieran Trippier, whose contract is up at the end of the season.
