Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Eye Marcos Senesi as Barcelona Rivalry Heats Up Amid Defensive Overhaul

Liverpool are in contact with Bournemouth centre-back Marcos Senesi as the Argentine runs down his deal on the south coast, reports TEAMtalk.
The Cherries are desperate to retain the former Feyenoord man’s services but are fighting a losing battle with the centre-back expected to leave the Vitality Stadium this summer.
The Reds are prepared to offer Senesi a lucrative deal in order to swap Bournemouth for Liverpool.
Barcelona considering Senesi move
However, the defending Premier League champions have a fight on their hands in their bid to land Senesi.
La Liga giants Barcelona are also circling the 28-year-old as they consider whether to make a move for the Argentina international.
That’s because the Blaugrana’s top defensive target remains Inter centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.
The Italian would cost significantly more to sign than Senesi, who has held talks with the Spanish side over a potential switch to Spotify Camp Nou.
Senesi, though, will be aware that he is their second choice centre-back target, which could prompt a move elsewhere.
Liverpool looking to bolster at the back
As such, Liverpool are waiting in the wings in order to steal a march in any potential race to sign Senesi.
The Merseyside outfit are looking to strengthen at the back this summer amidst Ibrahima Konate’s contract uncertainty and Virgil van Dijk’s advancing years.
Liverpool have already signed Jeremy Jacquet, the Frenchman arriving from Rennes later this year, but are in the market for defensive reinforcements.
Arne Slot’s side return to domestic duties on Saturday afternoon with the FA Cup quarter-final meeting with EFL Cup winners Manchester City.
