This Monday Night Football game features two of the more disappointing teams in the NFL this season. The 3-4-1 Dallas Cowboys play host to the 2-5 Arizona Cardinals. The Cards are looking to avoid a sixth consecutive loss, but they'll have to take on the 'Boys, who were embarrassed by the Denver Broncos last weekend. Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer explained how the team failed on all fronts in that 44-24 loss to the Broncos.

“I don't think any of us coached or played well enough,” Schottenheimer said during the team's Week Eight postgame press conference. “We knew we'd have to come in and own the line of scrimmage. I think it started up front. You’ve got to give Denver a lot of credit. I think they moved us around pretty good… But I told the guys, I said, ‘Look, it's one game. We did not play well. We did not coach well. We're going to get right back to work tonight.'”

The Cowboys' defense has struggled to keep opponents off the scoreboard all season. Coming into this matchup, Dallas ranks 31st in yards allowed per game (404.6) and points given up per game (31.3).

“Just talking about last week, we all accept accountability for the performances that we have, and that's really what you can go by, the last performance,” said Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus. “Sitting here last week, we thought the guys were moving in the right direction, and last week, [we] didn't play as well as we wanted to. And we accept responsibility, accountability for that.”

The good news for the 'Boys is that they can right the ship against a Cardinals squad that hasn't won a Game since Week Two. Brian Schottenheimer said that his guys are ready to go to work tonight.

“I've talked to a couple of the guys about just some of the different things they like. They like the plan,” he told reporters on Friday. “I thought Wednesday's practice was excellent, and the energy's been good. These guys, they're ready to fix it. They want to fix it. We're all aligned on that.”

On the other hand, the Arizona Cardinals have had two weeks to prepare for this game. The last time they played, they fell to the Green Bay Packers 27-23 on October 19th.

“We had a really good (practice) yesterday. It was spirited. It was fast and aggressive, so that was good to see,” head coach Jonathan Gannon said during a November 1st press conference. “Coming out of a bye, and I know we had the bonus day, but you're always looking to kind of see our tempo coming out of the bye… We’ve got to follow that up today and then got to play good football to win a game here.”

Cardinals quarterback and former number-one overall pick Kyler Murray is not expected to start tonight. Instead, backup QB Jacoby Brissett will make his third straight start. When asked about Kyler Murray's foot injury being a long-term issue, Gannon didn't provide a direct response. He actually said that Murray "can have a role" in the offense tonight.

“Everyone's different. Every player, every injury is kind of unique, and (Kyler’s) been pushing. We've been pushing,” Gannon said of Murray. “He is getting better. He's had some more work this last week, but he's just not ready to go yet. Obviously, that position is a little bit different because you’ve got to have a plan ready. That's why - I'm just saying - Jacoby's starting, but if (Kyler) can have a role, he can have a role. But you take it one day at a time. I know he wants to be out there, and he's doing everything he can. Just, he's not quite there yet.”

Even though Jacoby Brissett was not Arizona's Week One starter, you could argue that the Cardinals' offense has been better with Brissett under center. Kyler Murray is averaging 192.4 passing yards per game this season. In his last two starts, Jacoby Brissett has been averaging 299.5 passing yards per game. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. says that the passing game's success has more to do with the blocking up front rather than the quarterback play.

“I think we're executing. [It] starts with the O-line. I think everything in this offense goes through them. Obviously, the run game and the pass game,” Harrison told reporters on Thursday. “We give the quarterbacks time to read the defense down the field, and we can be able to make those throws and catches. It starts with them. They've done a great job the past two weeks, and, hopefully, they continue to do that.”

Even though Brissett's statistics have been better than Murray's, he knows that he hasn't been playing "good enough to win."

“That's the ultimate goal is to win,” Brissett said during a recent interview. “So I’ve got to find a way to get over the hump and get a win… It's the NFL. Every game is a big stage. You grow up as a kid dreaming of playing. I don't care if it's Monday, Thursday, Saturday, [or] Friday. So this is obviously another game, and I'm thankful for this opportunity, and [I’m] going out there to try my best and make the most of it.”

Prediction for Arizona Cardinals @ Dallas Cowboys (-3)

The Cardinals have been one of the worst teams in the NFL when it comes to stopping the pass (24th in passing yards allowed per game). That is worrisome considering the Dallas Cowboys have the league's best passing attack (263.8 passing yards per game). Jacoby Brissett will probably be able to put points on the board against Dallas' porous defense, but it won't be enough to topple the Cowboys at home, where they have not yet lost this season.

Prediction: Cowboys 31 - 28 Cardinals
