Spain are hotly tipped to win their second World Cup this summer, and goalkeeper Unai Simon could be integral to La Roja’s chances in North America.
The Athletic Bilbao man is currently 9/2 with LiveScore Bet* to win the Golden Glove for the most clean sheets at the World Cup 2026.
While Spain are particularly well-stocked between the sticks, with Arsenal’s David Raya arguably the best ‘keeper in the world right now, Simon looks likely to hold onto his place as number one, with Spanish boss Luis de la Fuente recently indicating as much. That being said, if you think Raya will get the nod for the World Cup, he’s currently 7/1 with LiveScore Bet* to win the Golden Glove.
Simon’s record for the national team speaks for itself: the 28-year-old has kept six clean sheets in his last seven Spain appearances.
First choice in goal since Euro 2020, Simon starred as Spain clinched their most recent major title at Euro 2024, keeping two clean sheets and never conceding more than one goal in a game.
Spain, on paper, have a favourable group at the World Cup 2026, playing in Group H alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and tournament debutants Cape Verde – so Simon could go some way to claiming the Golden Glove in the group stage alone.
Three clean sheets has been enough for the Golden Glove at each of the last two World Cups, with Argentina’s Emi Martinez and Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois claiming the prize in 2022 and 2018 respectively. The only Spanish Golden Glove winner was Iker Casillas, who recorded five shutouts in captaining his nation to glory in 2010.
