  • Netherlands and Japan played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Dallas on matchday one

  • Japan have reached the knockout stages at the last two World Cups

Sweden lead the way in Group F after the opening games following an impressive 5-1 thrashing of Tunisia, with Graham Potter seemingly a nice fit in the dugout after taking charge late in a dismal qualifying campaign.

The former Brighton and Chelsea boss led the Swedes to victories over Ukraine and Poland in the play-offs, and an emphatic winning start on their return to the World Cup finals.

Netherlands and Japan played out a 2-2 draw in Dallas with the Samurai Blue twice coming from behind to claim a share of the spoils.

Next up for Sweden is a clash against the Dutch on Saturday at 8pm, while Tunisia face another tough task, now under new management with Herve Renard replacing the sacked Sabri Lamouchi, when they face Japan in the early hours of Sunday morning at 5am.

Here we pick out the best bets for the second round of Group F games.

Best Bets

Netherlands vs Sweden (Saturday, 8pm)

Ronald Koeman knows his side has little margin for error when they take on a Sweden side filled with confidence after their emphatic opening win.

The hammering of Tunisia was the first time Sweden had scored five goals at the World Cup since an 8-0 victory over Cuba in 1938. Can they now secure another positive result against the Dutch?

Potter has a super strike partnership to call upon in Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres, who were superb in that 5-1 victory on Monday.

After a season of struggle with Liverpool, both through form and fitness, it was not certain that Isak would start the opener, but he did and did so emphatically, scoring his 18th international goal as well as providing two assists.

This is surely a confidence booster, and he can quickly follow up against a Dutch defence that has not kept a clean sheet in their last five games against the likes of Algeria and Uzbekistan, and conceded twice against Japan.

Score Prediction: Netherlands 2–2 Sweden

Tunisia vs Japan (Sunday, 5am)

Perhaps Tunisia’s best chance of securing a point at this tournament was against Sweden, but that went anything but to plan, with Lamouchi sacked in the aftermath.

Herve Renard is tasked with turning things around but they next face Japan, and the omens are not good as they have lost five of their six previous meetings, failing to score in any of those losses.

The Blue Samurai showed plenty of fight against the Dutch, twice coming back from a goal down to snatch a point thanks to an 89th-minute equaliser from Daichi Kamada.

Tunisia have conceded 10 goals in their last two matches while they have score only one in their last four, and Japan could be ready to take full advantage.

With three points likely to be enough to send Hajime Moriyasu’s men into the knockout stages, expect Japan to come out firing in Monterrey on Sunday.

Score Prediction: Tunisia 1–3 Japan
