USA and Australia lead the way in Group D after they both won their opening matches at World Cup 2026.
The co-hosts scored four goals at a World Cup for the first time in an impressive 4-1 thrashing of Paraguay, before a well touted Turkey side slumped to a dismal 2-0 defeat against the Aussies.
Next up for the USA is a tie against Australia at 8pm BST on Friday, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men can clinch a place in the knockout stages should they win and Turkey fail to beat Paraguay. That game takes place at 4am BST on Saturday.

USA vs Australia (Friday, 8pm)
Pochettino’s side enjoyed a fantastic start to the World Cup in what was a blistering performance against the Paraguayans last week, scoring three first half goals.
The Aussies will also be on a high after a somewhat surprising victory over Turkey and Tony Popovic’s men now have a great chance of reaching the knockout stages.
In total, seven goals were scored across both matches and we can expect plenty more in round two.
Both teams have scored in all five of USA’s victories dating back to October 2025, and that included a 2-1 triumph over this Australian side in a friendly played in Colorado.
Since then the Socceroos have conceded goals against the likes of Venezuela and Curacao while keeping just one clean sheet in seven before defeating Turkey, so there have been some question marks over their defence.
As such, both teams may find the back of the net in this intriguing clash, but the USA have the scoring power to seal all three points in the end.

Turkey vs Paraguay (Saturday, 4am)
Both nations now know that a win is imperative should they wish to make the knockout stages of this World Cup.
Turkey were overwhelming favourites to start their campaign with a win against Australia, but the weight of expectation proved too much in what was a poor 2-0 loss where they squandered some great chances to find the net.
Paraguay, in their first World Cup game since 2010, conceded four against the USA and improvement is required in round two.
Both teams have scored in five of Paraguay’s previous eight matches dating back to October last year, while three of Turkey’s previous eight matches have seen this bet land.
Turkey’s defence has been poor of late. Prior to the finals, Vincenzo Montella’s side conceded against Venezuela, who only scored 18 goals in as many games during World Cup qualifying.
Add in the two conceded against Australia in Vancouver and the Paraguayans will be confident of breaching their backline in this key game for both nations.
