Team news
USA head coach Mauricio Pochettino is set to recall many of his leading players for this knockout clash, with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Chris Richards, Antonee Robinson and Sergino Dest likely to start.
The co-hosts could, however, be without Christian Roldan (muscle) and Auston Trusty (ankle), while Mark McKenzie is a doubt due to a foot issue despite playing 90 minutes in their final group game.
Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemovic served a one-match suspension against Qatar for a red card in the defeat to Switzerland, so he could return in defence.
The only injury concern they have is that of Amar Dedic, who is dealing with a thigh problem.
The stats
The USA and Bosnia will meet for the first time in a competitive capacity, with the two sides having had three previous meetings all coming in friendlies.
Two of those matches were won by the USA, with the last clash ending 1-0 in their favour in December 2021.
The USA have netted eight goals in their three games in this year’s World Cup.
Bosnia found the back of the net five times in the group stage, but they conceded six times.

Prediction
USA have been a breath of fresh air at the World Cup, showing plenty of attacking prowess in each of their first two group games, a convincing 4-1 defeat of Paraguay and then a 2-0 success over Australia.
They rang the changes in their 3-2 defeat to Turkey, but Pochettino’s side were already through to the knockout stages. They did, however, put up a good fight, taking the lead twice before being struck in the 98th minute.
Bosnia needed all three points against Qatar to go through as one of the best third-placed finishers, though this match might be one step too far for them, especially with a raucous home support expected in San Francisco.
Bosnia have shown good signs of form this year – they beat Italy in the play-offs to reach the World Cup – and they can at least get on the scoresheet.
