Group F looked like one of the most exciting sections at the 2026 World Cup and the matchday one fixtures certainly lived up to the hype.

Tunisia are aiming to bounce back from their 5-1 defeat to Sweden when they take on Japan in Guadalupe on Sunday.

Experienced manager Herve Renard has replaced Sabri Lamouchi as Tunisia boss, but he faces a tricky debut against Japan, who drew 2-2 with the Netherlands in their opening game.

Team news

Tunisia goalkeeper Mouhib Chamakh conceded five goals against Sweden and his place is under pressure from Aymen Dahmen, while Augsburg youngster Ismael Gharbi is an option to freshen up the midfield.

Japan are unlikely to make major changes to their starting line-up against the Netherlands, although Ao Tanaka of Leeds United is pushing for a start in central midfield.

The stats

Tunisia have won only one of their last eight games and the Eagles of Carthage have conceded 10 goals in their last two matches, against Belgium and Sweden.

Tunisia have lost five of their six meetings with Japan to nil.

Japan have won six of their last seven internationals and the Samurai Blue have won five of their last six games to nil.

Both teams have scored in only three of Japan's last 12 matches.

Prediction

Qualifying from Group F always looked like a tough task for Tunisia and they have endured a miserable start to their World Cup campaign.

The Eagles of Carthage were ruthlessly exposed by Sweden in their opening 5-1 defeat and the Tunisian Football Federation responded by sacking coach Lamouchi.

New boss Renard has not had much time to plan for another testing assignment against Japan, whose high-intensity style rattled the Oranje in their opening game.

The Dutch were twice pegged back by Japan, whose second equaliser was scored by Crystal Palace's Daichi Kamada in the 89th minute.

Japan should be confident of grinding out a valuable victory against Tunisia, but they may have to be patient before breaking down their wounded opponents.

The Tie/Japan selection looks a good bet in the Half-time/Full-time market as Tunisia will be desperate to put up more of a fight than they did against Sweden.

Japan's defence arrived at the World Cup in great shape following five straight victories to nil.

That run included 1-0 friendly wins over Scotland at Hampden Park and England at Wembley in March, so they have little to fear from a Tunisia side who had only six shots against Sweden.

The most high-profile meeting between these nations came at the World Cup in 2002, when two second-half goals gave Japan a 2-0 win.

Renard will demand a more competitive performance from new charges, but they are likely to fold after the break against an exciting Japan side.

Score Prediction: Tunisia 0-2 Japan
