Ronald Koeman knows his Netherlands side are under pressure to perform against Sweden.

The Netherlands need to answer their critics and Sweden will be looking to stay on a roll when the two European sides in Group F meet on Saturday.

Ronald Koeman and his Oranje squad received few plaudits back home when they let an opening victory slip away in a 2-2 draw against Japan on Sunday.

Their defensive flaws will have had Sweden coach Graham Potter rubbing his hands together after watching his side smash five goals against Tunisia to top the group.

This match should see Alexander Isak come up against Liverpool colleague Virgil van Dijk, both players having opened their World Cup accounts at the weekend.

Team news

Koeman could keep faith with the XI that drew 2‑2 with Japan, but it was the same side that struggled to beat Uzbekistan in their final warm-up game.

Jurriën Timber, who withdrew before the World Cup because of injury, was badly missed in defence and Micky van der Ven rarely offered much in attack down the left.

Nathan Ake is a strong candidate to come into the back four, while Justin Kluivert could see his first tournament action this summer either from the start or as a substitute.

Memphis Depay is pushing for a start in attack with Donyell Malen under pressure for his place after going five games without a goal for his country.

As for Sweden, Potter may opt to go with the same starting XI that paved the way for their 5-1 win over Tunisia.

Gabriel Gudmundsson was substituted as a precaution after suffering from illness before that opening game, but the Leeds United star has since confirmed he is fully fit.

The only area where Potter could be tempted to make a change is in midfield, where Lucas Bergvall made an energetic cameo and Mattias Svanberg scored within seconds of replacing Jesper Karlstrom.

The stats

The Netherlands have scored in each of their last five matches, netting 12 goals in that run.

Sweden have scored 14 goals in their last five matches, including five against Tunisia.

Both teams have conceded in four of their last five.

The last World Cup meeting between these two sides back in 1974 ended in a goalless draw.

Prediction

This is a clash of two sides who score freely but defend inconsistently – a combination that promises chances at both ends inside Houston Stadium.

The Netherlands cannot afford to drop more points if they are to build any serious momentum, while Sweden arrive with confidence and a front line firing on all cylinders.

Isak and Viktor Gyökeres caused Tunisia constant problems with their movement and physicality, while Yasin Ayari's creativity between the lines gives Sweden a dangerous balance.

Against a Dutch defence that has looked vulnerable for months, Sweden can expect to create chances.

At the same time the Oranje's attacking quality will ensure they threaten a Swedish backline that has not kept a clean sheet in a dozen outings.

Shots should proliferate and, with five of the Netherlands' last eight matches seeing at least nine hit the target and Sweden's last five contests average 8.8, the total shots on target line looks ripe for the over.

The Dutch have fired 42 total shots across their last five matches compared to Sweden's 26 in the same period, suggesting Koeman's side create volume but lack clinical finishing.
