Morocco vs Canada Confirmed Line-ups
The team news is in for this first last-16 clash and the big news for Canada is that Alphonso Davies is again among the substitutes with Richie Laryea starting in the left-back role, and he will have his hands full against the likes of Achraf Hakimi and Brahim Diaz. Ali Ahmed is preferred on the left wing while Tani Oluwaseyi partners Jonathan David up top. One change for Morocco with Redouane Halhal starting in place of Chadi Riad, who went off injured against the Netherlands.

Canada v Morocco preview: Atlas Lions can tame co-hosts
By Alex Wrigley
A late strike from Stephen Eustaquio earned World Cup co-hosts Canada their first knockout-stage victory against South Africa, but they will face much stiffer opposition in the last 16.
It may have taken until the 92nd minute for Eustaquio’s half-volley to breach the Bafana Bafana defence, but Canada were good value for their victory in California, where they won the shot count 12-6 and had seven attempts on target to South Africa’s one.
However, their group-stage performances against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Switzerland were less impressive and they will be up against a Morocco side who have already more than held their own against a couple of big names this summer. The Atlas Lions, who were awarded the Africa Cup of Nations title in controversial fashion in January, opened the tournament with a deserved 1-1 draw against Group C favourites Brazil.
They followed up with solid victories over Scotland (1-0) and Haiti (4-2) to take second place in the group before dramatically beating the Netherlands on penalties in the first knockout round. Despite bookmakers having awarded the Dutch favouritism, Morocco were the better side in Monterrey, dominating possession and having more shots, shots on target and a higher expected-goals tally than Ronald Koeman’s side.
That extended their unbeaten run to 33 games and they have won 23 times in 90 minutes during that time. They will carry plenty of confidence into this last-16 tie, especially after making a run to the semi-finals in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, Mohamed Ouahbi’s side have conceded in three of their four World Cup games and a clean sheet appears unlikely against a Canadian side buoyed by the return of star man Alphonso Davies.
Davies made his first appearance of the World Cup from the bench against South Africa and may be in line to start in Houston. That would be a major boost to a Canada side who have scored in six consecutive matches. These sides met in the group stage of the last World Cup and a repeat of Morocco’s 2-1 victory in Doha would not be a surprise.
PSV forward Ismael Saibari had not yet made his breakthrough for the Morocco national team four years ago, but the 25-year-old has burst onto the scene this summer and looks the most likely player to make a difference on Saturday. Saibari opened the scoring against both Brazil and Scotland and also found the net in the win over Haiti.
He had ten shots in total during the group stage, and while he did not make much of an impact against the Netherlands, he scored the winning penalty in the shootout and will head to Houston full of confidence. Saibari scored three times in qualifying and looks the best value option to add to his 12 international goals in Houston after finding the net in six of his last eight starts for club and country.
