Carlo Ancelotti and Brazil are expected to make short work of Haiti in their second game
  • Haiti have lost two of their last three World Cup matches by three goals or more

  • Brazil have scored at least two goals in six of their last nine fixtures

  • Recommended bet: Brazil -2.5 on Asian handicap

Brazil have to deal with massive expectations at every World Cup and they are red-hot favourites to defeat Haiti at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.

Advancement from the group phase is seen as a formality for the Samba Stars, who have topped their section at 11 consecutive World Cups going back to Spain 1982.

But there is plenty of room for improvement from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who were pushed all the way by Morocco in their opening game.

While Brazil will be aiming for nothing less than first place, Haiti’s modest aim is to register their first ever point or points on the biggest stage.

The Grenadiers began their challenge against Scotland at the weekend but were condemned to a narrow 1-0 defeat by John McGinn’s deflected strike.

Team news

Brazil head coach Ancelotti may be tempted to shake things up and he has some excellent attacking options with Matheus Cunha, Endrick, Rayan and Gabriel Martinelli hoping to make their first starts of the tournament.

Haiti were forced into a squad change on the eve of the tournament with Garven Metusala stepping in to replace Leverton Pierre. They competed well against Scotland and are unlikely to make too many changes.

The stats

There have been at least four goals in three of Haiti’s four World Cup matches.

Haiti have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five fixtures.

Brazil have started the scoring in three of their last four games.

Brazil’s last three wins have featured goals for both teams.

Five of Brazil’s last six victories have been by a margin of at least two goals.

Prediction

There have been a few one-sided contests in the opening week of the World Cup and another could transpire in Philadelphia where Brazil are set to defeat Haiti by a minimum of three goals.

Goal difference has become a big issue for the Brazilians, who failed to get the better of Morocco in an entertaining and hard-fought encounter.

Brazil might need a couple of wide margin victories to finish in first place and they can claim the first of them against Haiti, who are among the weaker teams in the tournament.

Haiti’s qualification was achieved despite a couple of heavy losses to Curacao (1-5) and Honduras (0-3).

They gave a reasonable account of themselves against Scotland, but face a far stiffer test against Brazil and may fall some way short of a respectable scoreline.

Score prediction: Brazil 4-0 Haiti
