Jurgen Klopp is set to succeed Julian Nagelsmann as Germany head coach.
Nagelsmann resigned from his role as national team boss following a disastrous World Cup 2026 showing.
Die Mannschaft progressed to the knockout stages in North America as group winners, but were dumped out of the tournament at the round-of-32 stage by South American nation Paraguay on penalties.
38-year-old Nagelsmann opted to tender his resignation following Germany’s early exit despite penning a new deal through to Euro 2028 earlier this year.
Klopp set for Germany role
And Klopp is now set for a return to management, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano confirming the news on Sunday.
“BREAKING: Jurgen Klopp as new Germany head coach, here we go!” Romano posted on his official X account.
Romano added that there are still some details with Red Bull to iron out, continuing: “Klopp has accepted to take over; long term contract details, project and RB Group exit still under discussion, but he will be the new head coach.”
The appointment comes after Klopp recently admitted that he is ready for a return to management.
Klopp stepped away from management two years following a successful nine-year stint with Liverpool before taking up a role with Red Bull
'I'm ready'
“Since then, I'm more than recharged,” said Klopp. “I'm ready.”
The 59-year-old continued that Germany’s problems extend beyond one person following Nagelsmann’s exit.
“German football is at a turning point. We need to change things fundamentally,” Klopp added.
Klopp is expected to take over as head coach in time for Germany’s UEFA Nations League meeting with Netherlands in September.
And his first major international tournament will be Euro 2028, which is co-hosted by England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
