Once one of football’s most exciting rising stars, Jadon Sancho’s stock and reputation are at an all-time low. The 26-year-old is stuck in career limbo and without a club as players elsewhere begin to return for pre-season training across Europe.
Sancho’s contract with Manchester United officially expired on June 30th, bringing to a close a disastrous five-year spell on the books at Old Trafford for the 23-times-capped former England international.
Loan stints at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa since 2023 yielded little for Sancho, who didn’t impress enough to earn permanent moves to any of his temporary employers, and now the winger faces an uncertain future as the new 2026/27 campaign approaches.

Aston Villa – 2/1
Operating under financial constraints, Aston Villa have been forced to cash in on some of their best players this summer.
However, even though they’ve earned £117m and £35m from the sales of Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans to Chelsea and Man Utd respectively, they aren’t in a position to splash out on incomings.
Instead, Villa will have to recruit smartly and within the limits of their budgets, and from that perspective, a move for free agent Jadon Sancho would make sense.
Unfortunately for Sancho, Villa had a good long look at the winger while he was on loan with the club last term, and if they were considering him as a permanent signing, chances are they would have pulled the trigger on a deal already.
Sancho only started nine Premier League fixtures for Villa last season and despite picking up a Europa League-winners’ medal, he scored only one goal in 39 appearances in all competitions overall.
Villa are short-priced favourites to sign Sancho in the transfer special markets, however, based on his output in 2025/26, the Midlanders have little incentive to pursue his signature.

Borussia Dortmund – 2/1
Jadon Sancho played the best football of his career during his time with Dortmund in Germany between 2017 and 2021, where he linked up with Erling Haaland and posted incredible metrics for both goals and assists.
Rumours about a potential reunion have been building, though Dortmund seem reluctant to commit to a signing that would represent a major gamble, even if no initial transfer fee outlay is required.
Reports from Germany suggest Dortmund would only be amenable to a highly-incentivised contract based on a pay-per-play arrangement up to a maximum of five million euros a year.
That salary would be a monumental climbdown for Sancho, who was believed to be on upwards of £250k per week at Man Utd.
However, if he genuinely wants to play football again, he will need to take a major pay cut of some description, and Dortmund could provide the environment he needs to rebuild his career.

AC Milan – 4/1
Though links have cooled more recently, there were suggestions earlier this summer that AC Milan were ready to take a chance on Jadon Sancho.
Milan are actively on the hunt for options in the final third, especially with Rafael Leao’s future with the Rossoneri in question, and Sancho, who is a versatile performer, would represent a low-cost option to fill in.
The appointment of Ruben Amorim might have scuppered Sancho’s chances of playing in Serie A, however. The former Man Utd coach is firmly wedded to his 3-4-2-1 formation, a system that operates without orthodox wingers.
Sancho is believed to have a long-standing interest in playing in Italy, but with Milan’s recruitment policy revolving around Amorim’s demands, we’re not sure this potential move will have legs.

Galatasaray – 4/1
Turkey has long been a regular destination for out-of-favour former stars and Super Lig clubs are never shy about throwing cash at big names in a bid to lure them to the division.
Earlier this year, ambitious Galatasaray were thought to be casting amorous glances in Sancho’s direction and Gala could do with some strengthening in wide positions, particularly on the left, where Sancho likes to drift.
The summer departure of Zaha Wilfried might have also opened the kind of space, in terms of position and salary, that might facilitate Sancho’s arrival, however, as yet, there have been no concrete developments in this direction.
Galatasaray’s rivals Fenerbahce meanwhile, have also been credited with an interest in Sancho. The attacker almost ended up with the Yellow Canaries last year when Jose Mourinho was in situ, however, the stars ultimately never aligned.
