Ruben Amorim will this week sign as the new manager of AC Milan in an initial deal until 2028, reports Fabrizio Romano.
Amorim spent just over a year in charge of United, taking over from Erik ten Hag. In an already difficult position in his first campaign, his side finished 15th in the Premier League.
In his first full season, after a summer of signing players he deemed to fit his system, things improved, with United hovering around the top six, but tensions with the board and some statements in the media made his position untenable in January.
Amorim will now take his first role since being dismissed by United, as Romano reveals he's agreed to become the AC Milan boss.
Amorim will sign until 2028, with an option to extend his stay until 2029, with the contract to be officially signed this week.
The likes of Andoni Iraola - now at Liverpool - and Oliver Glasner, had been considered for the Milan job, but Amorim is the man they've opted for.
What does this mean for United?
Amorim's appointment to a new job is actually a good thing for United, as it means the compensation they have been paying after sacking him 14 months into a three-year contract.
The Red Devils had amassed a near-£16million compensation bill after pushing Amorim out the door, but will now not have to pay all of that.
Further to that, United are going to meet Amorim again soon, following his appointment at AC.
Indeed, the two clubs will face off in a friendly on August 15, just a week before the 2026-27 Premier League season kicks off.
United have not lost to the Milan outfit in any of their last four meetings, with their last loss against the side coming back in 2007.
They'll be eager not to be turned over by their former boss, and it's expected they'll have some fresh faces in the side at that point, with talks ongoing over a few additions, such as that of Atalanta midfielder Ederson.
