Tottenham are interested in James Trafford from Manchester City to shake up their goalkeeping options, reports The Independent.
Spurs are expected to sell Guglielmo Vicario to an Italian club this summer, with multiple interested. They have Antonin Kinsky in the squad, and after a woeful time under Igor Tudor, he impressed when given the gloves under new boss Roberto De Zerbi.
Suggestions that he could leave have now dissipated, with Tottenham believed to be hopeful that Kinsky can be their man in the future.
But whether he is their starter next season remains to be seen, as it's reported the club are interested in landing Trafford from City.
Per the report, Spurs are pushing for a deal, and while they 'have hopes for a revitalised Kinsky, Trafford would be intended to bring an authority in the goalkeeping position.'
That suggests he's wanted as a new starter, with Kinsky again resigned to a bench role and limited game time when he's needed to be called upon.
Trafford impressed in periods with City
Trafford was signed as a starter for City, but when it became evident that they could get Guglielmo Vicario through the door, they did so, and Trafford was pushed to the bench.
He played just four games in the Premier League for City in his debut season, but impressed in cup competition.
The Manchester outfit won both the FA Cup and the League Cup, and Trafford didn't miss a minute in either competition.
He kept clean sheets in seven games across the competitions, including in both finals, against Chelsea and Arsenal.
The 23-year-old did enough to make England's World Cup squad, but would be hard pressed to usurp Jordan Pickford, and knows being a starter at club level is the best route to doing so.
He said in June: “History says yeah [he’ll have to start at club level]. I think there hasn’t been a goalie start for any of the top nations that isn’t a No.1 at the club, so going off history, I’d say yes.
“You never know, whether I move, whether I don’t move, I do what’s right for me and my career.”
