Tottenham have set their asking price for highly-rated midfielder Lucas Bergvall after the Swede asked to move on for a new challenge this summer, reports The Standard.

Spurs have made a promising start to the summer, signing Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke. But they could see one of their most highly-rated players leave, as Bergvall has asked for a transfer.

Multiple outlets reported on Sunday that the Swedish midfielder has asked to move away from Tottenham in search of a fresh challenge.

There is known to be serious interest in him from across Europe, and per The Standard, several clubs have already been in contact with Spurs in regards to Bergvall's situation.

The report states that his asking price has been set at £45million.

Bergvall is ready to consider proposals from across Europe, looking at clubs who will be able to offer him regular starts as a No.8.

The midfielder is believed to be frustrated at the lack of opportunities he's been given of late, starting only one game since Roberto De Zerbi joined.

He reportedly feels his status at the club has been made clear, believes there are other players ahead of him in the pecking order and does not believe there's a clear route into the manager's plans.

While the price has been set, the midfielder will wait until under the World Cup has finished to consider any proposals.

Bergvall has featured in both of Sweden's fixtures at the tournament so far, assisting a goal in the 5-1 victory over Tunisia which kicked things off.

English clubs could return

Interest both in England and on the European continent has been reported on previously, with Aston Villa and Chelsea two of the Premier League clubs who were said to be eyeing Bergvall.

However, both clubs dropped back when it was made clear by Tottenham that they would not entertain any proposals for the midfielder.

Now that he wants to leave and a price has been set by the north London club, it would not be a surprise to see either club rejoin the pursuit.

Chelsea could lose Enzo Fernandez this summer, with Real Madrid threatening a move, while Villa will want to keep making additions to their squad for the impending Champions League campaign.

Bergvall represents a potentially world-class signing which would not absolutely obliterate the bank account of a club who often feel the pressure of financial regulations.
