Gabby Agbonlahor has called out Tottenham new boy Sandro Tonali for joining the club for "big bucks" rather than the atmosphere.

Tonali was announced as a Spurs player on Monday. The Italian midfielder makes the move from Newcastle in a transfer rising to £100million with add-ons.

Though there were multiple other clubs in the chase for him, Tonali chose last season's 17th-placed Premier League side, where manager Roberto De Zerbi supposedly played a large role.

But it's believed that Spurs were willing to pay far more than anyone else, with it reported that Tonali will earn £275,000 per week in north London - which is a £125,000 rise on his Magpies deal, and £80,000 more than any other Tottenham player earns.

The midfielder has suggested the atmosphere is one of the big reasons he chose to move to Tottenham.

He said: "I can't wait to play in this stadium because I play a few times against Tottenham with AC Milan in the Champions League and with Newcastle.

"I found a great atmosphere. I found every time a full stadium, which is not easy because the stadium is so big. The fans can change the game in two minutes. The fans work with you. I think the fans are one of the best."

Agbonlahor nut buying atmosphere reasons

Former Premier League striker Agbonlahor, though, feels money is the much more obvious reason that Tonali has headed to Tottenham.

He said on talkSPORT: "Atmosphere? Do me a favour. Don't make me laugh. I went to the game last season, Spurs against Aston Villa. Probably the quietest stadium I've ever been to. Zero atmosphere.

"You've gone for the big bucks, you've gone for the money that Newcastle probably wouldn't give you. Leaving Newcastle to go to Spurs is a crazy decision, let's just call it as it is. Do me a favour, the stadium."

Indeed, the Magpies finished five places and eight points above Spurs last season, and in the campaign prior, it was 12 places and 28 points.

However, the north London club are making a great fist of recruitment to ensure they're far ahead of where they have been of late, as beyond Tonali, they've also landed Mateus Fernandes, Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and Jan Paul van Hecke.
