Arsenal could have Leandro Trossard available for Sunday's top of the table clash with Chelsea
  • Everton fail in appeal against key midfielder's suspension

  • Key player back for Chelsea's top-of-the-table clash with Arsenal

  • Gunners should have Leandro Trossard available for Stamford Bridge trip

There is no doubt what the standout fixture in the Premier League is this weekend, with the top two, Chelsea and Arsenal, set to go head-to-head at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Everton against Newcastle and Liverpool's trip to West Ham also stand out on the schedule, while managers up and down the country will be facing selection dilemmas ahead of the top-flight’s first midweek round of the season.

Everton vs Newcastle (Saturday, 5.30pm)

Everton have won back-to-back games but they will be without key midfielder Idrissa Gueye this weekend after the club failed in their appeal against his sending off for striking team-mate Michael Keane in Monday's win at Manchester United.

With Merlin Rohl also out after undergoing a hernia operation, the Toffees are looking a little short in the middle of the park, while in defence club captain Seamus Coleman sustained a hamstring injury against United and joins long-term absentees Nathan Patterson and Jarrad Branthwaite on the treatment table.

As for Newcastle, summer signing Yoane Wissa has returned to training following a knee issue, but this match will come too soon for him to make his debut.

Sven Botman is a doubt with a back problem and could join Kieran Trippier (hamstring) and Emile Krafth (knee) on the sidelines, while head coach Eddie Howe says he has a decision to make in goal, with Aaron Ramsdale potentially replacing Nick Pope.

West Ham vs Liverpool (Sunday, 2.05pm)

Liverpool will be aiming to avoid a 10th defeat across their last 13 games and ease the pressure on boss Arne Slot when they visit West Ham, but they may have to do without Hugo Ekitike, who is touch and go after injuring his back in the midweek Champions League loss to PSV Eindhoven.

There is better news regarding goalkeeper Alisson, who has returned to training after missing the PSV defeat due to illness, while Florian Wirtz should also play some part after a recent muscle issue.

West Ham have taken seven points from the last nine available and could be boosted by the returns of Crysencio Summerville and Konstantinos Mavropanos from injury, as well as Lucas Paqueta, who sat out last week's draw at Bournemouth through suspension.

Chelsea vs Arsenal (Sunday, 4.30pm)

Chelsea will be boosted for the visit of the league leaders by the return of Cole Palmer, with boss Enzo Maresca confirming the England international is fit to start after over two months out with first a groin and then a toe injury.

Palmer could start alongside the in-form Estevao at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea having no fresh injury concerns to contend with following Tuesday's impressive Champions League win over Barcelona.

Arsenal also enjoyed an eye-catching European success in midweek, beating Bayern Munich 3-1, and there is positive news regarding Leandro Trossard, who limped off in that game but does have a chance of featuring this weekend.

Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz could also play some part after recent lay-offs, while Gabriel Jesus featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly during the week, although this match will come too soon for him given he has been out of the first-team picture since January due to a serious knee issue.

Jesus' namesake Gabriel Magalhaes is also progressing well from the muscular issue he sustained with Brazil over the international break, but no timeframe has yet been put on his return.
