Roberto De Zerbi's Tottenham go to Chelsea on Tuesday looking for more vital points
  • Tottenham have slipped into the Premier League relegation zone after a 14-match winless run in 2026

  • Brighton's only dropped points in their last six matches came in a 1-0 home defeat to leaders Arsenal

  • Recommended bet: Brighton to win

Tottenham's first match under Roberto De Zerbi ended in a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland and his struggling side start the weekend two points from safety in the Premier League.

De Zerbi's home debut as Spurs boss is against his former club Brighton, who are finishing the campaign strongly under Fabian Hurzeler.

Last weekend's 2-0 victory at Burnley made it five wins out of six for the Seagulls, who let slip a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Tottenham in September's reverse fixture at the Amex Stadium.

Team news

Tottenham captain Cristian Romero (knee) has joined Wilson Odobert, Dejan Kulusevski, Ben Davies, James Maddison, Rodrigo Bentancur and Mohammed Kudus on the sidelines.

Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario (groin) is a doubt so Antonin Kinsky could deputise again.

Brighton are missing suspended centre-back Lewis Dunk as well as the injured James Milner, Adam Webster and Stefanos Tzimas.

The stats

Tottenham have lost 10 of their 16 home games in this season's Premier League.

Spurs have won only two of their last 23 top-flight fixtures.

Five of Tottenham's 10 league defeats at home were by a 2-1 scoreline.

Brighton have won five of their last six Premier League matches.

Only one of the Seagulls' last 18 league games had over 3.5 goals.

Brighton have scored 27 of their 43 league goals in the second half of matches.

Prediction

Home advantage has been virtually non-existent for Tottenham this season and Brighton should be backed to inflict the hosts' 11th defeat in 17 games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Spurs fans and players are feeling the tension after last weekend's results plunged them into deeper trouble in the relegation battle.

A deflected Nordi Mukiele strike condemned Tottenham to a 1-0 defeat at Sunderland and survival rivals West Ham and Leeds claimed morale-boosting wins over Wolves and Manchester United.

De Zerbi also lost captain Romero to a season-ending knee injury at the Stadium of Light and his former club Brighton arrive in north London in fine form.

The Seagulls have shown real defensive steel since the turn of the year, conceding only 10 goals in 13 league matches in 2026.

They have won five of their last six games, including a 2-1 home victory against Liverpool, and were unfortunate to lose 1-0 to title-chasing Arsenal last month.

There is a gulf in confidence between the two camps and Tottenham's survival chances have been undermined by a host of significant injuries.

Kulusevski, Maddison and Kudus, three of their most creative players, remain sidelined and first-choice keeper Vicario is a doubt for Saturday's game.

It may pay to keep things simple from a betting perspective. Tottenham's performances have been dismal for a long period and they lost 3-0 to fellow strugglers Forest in their last home game.

Brighton have won their last three away matches to nil, at Brentford, Sunderland and Burnley, and they should show their former manager no mercy this weekend.
