  • Chelsea lost 2-1 to Man Utd at Old Trafford in September’s reverse meeting

  • Man Utd have beaten top-six rivals Man City, Arsenal and Aston Villa under Michael Carrick

  • Recommended bet: Over 3.5 goals

Manchester United suffered their most significant setback under Michael Carrick as they were beaten 2-1 by Leeds at Old Trafford on Monday.

The Red Devils are aiming to bounce back in Saturday's Premier League fixture at Chelsea, who have endured a miserable run of results.

Liam Rosenior's men were hammered 8-2 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League round of 16 and have lost 1-0 to Newcastle, 3-0 to Everton and 3-0 to Manchester City in their last three league matches.

Team news

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez should return after serving a club suspension. Defenders Reece James and Trevoh Chalobah are doubts and Levi Colwill, Jamie Gittens and Filip Jorgensen remain sidelined.

Man Utd are missing suspended centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire so youngsters Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven could start in defence. Kobbie Mainoo (calf) will be assessed and Patrick Dorgu and Matthijs de Ligt are injured.

Prediction

Man Utd beat Chelsea 2-1 in an incident-packed Premier League fixture at Old Trafford in September and there is plenty riding on Saturday's rematch at Stamford Bridge.

United lost 2-1 at home to Leeds on Monday but they are still in a great position in the race for Champions League qualification.

However, manager Michael Carrick will be forced into a defensive reshuffle after red cards for Lisandro Martinez against Leeds and Harry Maguire in the 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

Chelsea are favourites to take three points but over 3.5 goals looks a more tempting bet given the Blues' poor form.

They were torn apart in the second half of last weekend's home fixture against Manchester City, who eased to a 3-0 win.

Their previous league result was a 3-0 defeat at Everton, but they have a formidable attacking unit and can take advantage of what looks set to be a makeshift United backline.

Bruno Fernandes has had an outstanding campaign teeing up Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko and a positive approach from United should also be rewarded.

The Red Devils won 3-2 at Arsenal in their first away fixture under Carrick and their last two results before the international break were a 3-1 home win over Aston Villa and a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth.

Chelsea's European hopes have been dented by their run of three straight defeats. They start the weekend four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool in the race for Champions League qualification so a draw would not be a great result for the hosts.

Rosenior's Blues could leave themselves exposed as they chase maximum points against a United side stung by their loss to Leeds so an open contest is expected at Stamford Bridge.
