Chelsea and Manchester City were knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage but they still have plenty to play for in the domestic competitions.

City are aiming to keep up the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal while Liam Rosenior's Chelsea are involved in a hotly-contested race for European qualification.

Both clubs reached the FA Cup semi-finals in style last weekend. City thumped Liverpool 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium and the Blues eased past Port Vale 7-0 at Stamford Bridge, where a fascinating league clash is on the cards on Sunday.

Team news

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been dropped for disciplinary reasons. Captain Reece James (thigh) is unlikely to be risked and Trevoh Chalobah, Levi Colwill, Jamie Gittens and Filip Jorgensen remain sidelined.

Manchester City are missing injured defenders Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol but John Stones (calf) trained on Friday and could return to the squad.

The stats

Chelsea have not won any of their last 12 meetings with Manchester City in all competitions.

The Blues have lost four of their last five league and cup games.

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has been booked in six of his last seven appearances against City.

Manchester City have scored the first goal in seven of their last eight Premier League matches.

Only two of City's last 16 league games featured over 3.5 goals.

Five of the Citizens' last 12 wins were by a 2-0 scoreline.

Prediction

Manchester City responded impressively to their Champions League exit against Real Madrid and they should be backed to turn up the heat on Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior.

City have produced two of their most convincing displays of the campaign in their last two matches, beating Premier League leaders Arsenal 2-0 in the EFL Cup final and demolishing Liverpool 4-0 in last weekend's FA Cup quarter-final.

Rosenior named a strong team for Chelsea's cup tie against League One strugglers Port Vale and he was rewarded with a 7-0 romp at Stamford Bridge.

But March was a brutal month for the Blues, who lost 5-2 and 3-0 to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last 16.

They dominated possession in a 1-0 home league defeat to Newcastle and it was a similar story in the 3-0 loss to Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Chelsea are likely to see far less of the ball against a City side who have clicked into gear so backing the visitors to lead at half-time and full-time looks a good option.

The Blues were trailing at the break in all four of their defeats last month and Pep Guardiola's Citizens have been ahead at half-time in six of their last eight league matches.

City also opened the scoring in the 31st minute of last month's 1-1 draw at West Ham and they should take charge early on in west London.
