Newcastle are closing in on the signing of teenage Dutch midfielder Sean Steur, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Magpies are acting swiftly to strengthen in the middle of the park following Sandro Tonali’s move to Tottenham.

The Italian’s switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was confirmed on Monday morning after the north London side agreed to pay a club-record fee to land the former AC Milan man.

And Newcastle are close to confirming the addition of the 18-year-old after the Premier League side agreed a deal with Ajax for the youngster.

“Newcastle verbally agree deal to sign Sean Steur for fee over €25m here we go!” Romano posted on his official X account.

“18 year old midfielder will join Magpies from Ajax, agreement done overnight and Newcastle planning for medical next.

“€24m fixed fee, €3m add-ons as Telegraaf reports.”

Steur would become the club’s third signing of the summer having already brought in Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Toure from Reims and Hoffenheim, respectively.

Manzambi on Newcastle's radar

Newcastle are also hoping to secure the services of Freiburg star Johan Manzambi with the 20-year-old impressing at the 2026 World Cup.

Manzambi has been Switzerland’s star man in North America this summer having scored three goals and provided two assists for the European nation, a return he’ll hope to add to in tonight’s last-16 clash with Colombia.

The Freiburg man has previously been linked with a Premier League switch, with Manchester United among those to have been keeping tabs on the Swiss star.

However, it looks as though Newcastle are leading the race for Manzambi, who scored five times and provided four assists across 27 Bundesliga appearances last season.
