Manchester United are considering a January move for Borussia Dortmund striker Karim Adeyemi, reports German publication Bild.

United are widely expected to dip into the market in the New Year as they look to strengthen in key areas.

Central midfield is believed to be the priority for Ruben Amorim’s side having pursued Carlos Baleba over the summer.

Baleba and Wharton among January midfield targets

While Brighton managed to rebuff United’s efforts to sign Baleba, the Manchester side are considering renewing their interest in the Cameroon international at the turn of the year.

The 21-year-old isn’t the only midfielder on the club’s wishlist, with Adam Wharton, Jobe Bellingham and Morten Hjulmand also linked with a move to Old Trafford.

In addition, United are weighing up whether to add a new forward when the transfer window reopens next year.

With Bryan Mbeumo, like Baleba, expected to be called up to the Cameroon squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, Amorim is wary about being caught short on the frontline.

United consider Adeyemi move

And Adeyemi has emerged as a potential target for United as they consider bringing in another attacker.

The 23-year-old hasn’t struggled for minutes for German side Borussia Dortmund this season, featuring in all 10 league matches and starting seven times in the Bundesliga.

However, the versatile frontman has been unable to build up any consistency in the final third having scored just two goals and provided one assist.

Adeyemi has also started Dortmund’s last two league games on the bench, with Niko Kovac recently opting for Carney Chukwuemeka in one of the two support roles for striker Serhou Guirassy.

The Germany international is contracted to Dortmund until 2027 and while the Bundesliga powerhouse are keen to extend his stay, any agreement currently remains way off.

Dortmund have lost ground on Bayern in the Bundesliga title race in recent weeks having won only two of their last five matches.

As such, Kovac’s side now sit seven points behind rivals Bayern after they were forced to settle for a point against Hamburg last weekend.
