Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed the club-record signing of Luka Vuskovic from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
Vuskovic, who was part of the Croatia squad for the 2026 World Cup, spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Hamburg, and impressed for the German outfit.
Bayern Munich and Barcelona had been credited with an interest in the Croatia international, but it’s Brighton that have won the race for the centre-back.
“We are pleased to confirm the signing of defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The 19-year-old Croatia international has joined on a five-year deal, with an option for a further year.”
Hurzeler's Vuskovic praise
On his signing, head coach Fabian Hurzeler said: “Luka has enjoyed a fantastic start to his career - it’s one we’ve followed closely.
“Last season he demonstrated he can play at a very high level and we want to help him build on that within our environment.
“There’s been a lot of external noise about Luka joining us, but he is still a young guy who will need time to adjust to the demands of playing for Brighton and the Premier League.
“We are confident that he will take this in his stride though.”
The Seagulls have been active in the summer market to bolster their backline in the off-season following the departures of Adam Webster, Joel Veltman and Jan Paul van Hecke, the latter completing a move to Tottenham last month.
Brighton have brought in Pascal Struijk from Leeds United, while Austrian defender Michael Svoboda completed his move to the AMEX Stadium earlier this month.
