Tranmere will be determined to halt a run of six straight defeats when they host poor travellers Crawley.
Leaders Bromley face a stiff test of their title ambitions when they take on an in-form Notts County outfit.
Cambridge could step into third spot if they beat Bristol Rovers and other results go their way on Saturday.
There is a ten-game set of fixtures to enjoy in League Two this weekend as the skirmish for points and positions starts to heat up at both ends of the table.
There could be a decent amount of movement near the summit, with Bromley (1st) facing Notts County (3rd) and Swindon (2nd) and Cambridge (4th) in action in winnable-looking meetings with Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers, respectively.
Below, we’ve assembled predictions for each of the ten League Two games on Saturday’s card.
Barnet vs Cheltenham (Saturday, 12:30pm)
Barnet have been gliding through the gears of late and they played with the swagger of a confident team when winning 3-1 at fellow playoff contenders Walsall last time out. A date with a Cheltenham side in the midst of a four-game losing slump looks like a chance to strike again. Barnet won the clubs’ reverse fixture 1-0 in August and they could do even better this time.
Score prediction: Barnet 3-1 Cheltenham
Barrow vs Colchester (Saturday, 3:30pm)
Barrow remain in freefall and in complete crisis, and they sacked recent hire Paul Gallagher in midweek after just five matches in the job. Barrow lost all five games under the 41-year-old, so they will be hoping for better under his replacement, Dino Maamria. Visiting Colchester might view this as an opportunity to capitalise on their host’s state of flux however, and could force a second win in a row.
Score prediction: Barrow 1-2 Colchester
Bromley vs Notts County (Saturday, 3pm)
Bromley might be top of the league proper, though Notts County are top dogs at present in terms of recent form. They’ve won each of their last six League One assignments, and one of those victories was secured against second-place Swindon. Bromley are favourites, but might find it tough to overturn this confident Magpies outfit.
Score prediction: Bromley 2-2 Notts County
Cambridge United vs Bristol Rovers (Saturday, 3pm)
Cambridge impressed in their 3-0 win at Crawley in midweek to record their seventh win in eight League Two fixtures. That surge has thrust them right into the automatic promotion picture and they should have the attacking tools to find gaps in a Bristol Rovers backline that was breached three times by Chesterfield (2-3) last week.
Score prediction: Cambridge United 3-1 Bristol Rovers
Chesterfield vs Harrogate Town (Saturday, 3pm)
Chesterfield came from 2-1 down to beat Bristol Rovers last weekend thanks to a late intervention from substitute James Berry. Lifted by that showing, they should be able to tack another win on at Harrogate’s expense. Visiting Town shocked Cambridge (2-1) when last seen, however, they’ve lost four of their last five on the road and could suffer again here.
Score prediction: Chesterfield 2-0 Harrogate Town
Crewe vs Gillingham (Saturday, 3pm)
Crewe managed to wrangle seven points out of their last three league fixtures, despite scoring just one goal on each occasion, and they could lean on their solid defensive foundations again to see off Gillingham. The Gills lost 1-0 at Notts County in their last outing and they have failed to score in three of their last five away matches overall.
Score prediction: Crewe 1-0 Gillingham
Milton Keynes Dons vs Newport (Saturday, 3pm)
MK Dons racked up 19 shots in their impressive 3-2 win at Cheltenham last weekend, in what was their fourth victory in five fixtures in League Two. A home game against struggling Newport should be easier to navigate. County have lost five straight away matches, shipping 14 goals along the way, so they can be opposed with confidence on Saturday.
Score prediction: Milton Keynes Dons 3-0 Newport
Oldham vs Fleetwood (Saturday, 3pm)
Oldham (16th) and Fleetwood (17th) have both been in poor form in recent weeks, with Athletic losing three on the bounce and Town losing five of their last six league games. The sides drew 1-1 when they last crossed paths in August, and with confidence in both camps lacking, a share of the spoils looks possible again.
Score prediction: Oldham 1-1 Fleetwood
Shrewsbury vs Swindon (Saturday, 3pm)
Shrewsbury enjoyed a significant 2-1 win over relegation rivals Barrow in their last tussle, though matching that result against a superior Swindon side should be trickier. The Robins have tightened their grip on second spot with a series of four straight wins and they can add a fifth victory to their string at Shrewsbury’s expense.
Score prediction: Shrewsbury 0-2 Swindon
Tranmere vs Crawley (Saturday, 3pm)
Tranmere are caught in a powerful downward current and their 2-1 loss at Gillingham last week was their sixth reverse on the trot. Visiting Crawley, who are below Rovers in the table, have a dismal away record this term and having lost ten of their 15 matches on the road in League Two. Tranmere have a good chance to reset here.
Score prediction: Tranmere 1-0 Crawley
