Charlton will be eager to maintain their place in the top six of the Championship when they take on Swansea at The Valley on Saturday afternoon.

The Addicks have lost only once in eight games to climb up the table and face a Swansea side who arrive in the capital after being knocked out of the League Cup by Manchester City.

Team news

Charlton defender Josh Edwards has not featured since September and remains sidelined with an ankle injury while last season’s top scorer Matt Godden is yet to play this campaign following knee surgery.

Swansea will be without defender Ricardo Santos who has been sidelined with a knee injury. Malick Yalcoule is available having served his suspension for his red card against Queens Park Rangers.

The stats

Charlton have lost only once at The Valley so far this season (1-0 vs Leicester), winning four and drawing one in all competitions.

Swansea are yet to score more than two goals in a Championship match this season.

Sonny Carey leads the way for Charlton goals this season, finding the net in four different games.

Swansea have travelled to face the Addicks in the league only twice this century, losing 2-0 in August 2008 and winning 2-1 in October 2019 (both games were played in the Championship)

Prediction

Charlton have swiftly acclimatised to life back in the Championship after five years away.

Beating Leyton Orient in the League One play-off final at Wembley, Nathan Jones won their opening game back in the second tier against Watford and have continued to show good form.

The Addicks have been hard to beat, losing only three games and winning four games in their last seven to sit sixth in the table.

Charlton are favourites heading into Saturday’s fixture with Swansea who have shown patchy form over the last two months, winning three, drawing three and losing four in all competitions since the start of September.

The Swans were knocked out of the League Cup by Manchester City on Wednesday and while it won’t define the Welsh club’s campaign, they will be eager to build on the 2-1 victory over Norwich they enjoyed last Saturday.

However, Charlton have found the net in seven of their last eight matches and will be confident of earning another three points.

Sonny Carey is a key midfielder for the Addicks and has scored two goals in his last three games.

With Charlton enjoying home advantage, the summer signing will no doubt find more shooting opportunities against a Swansea side who have kept just one clean sheet in 10 and he could inspire the hosts to victory..
