Shamrock Rovers will hope to move one step closer to the Champions League League Phase when they take on Ararat-Armenia in the second qualifying round on Tuesday.

The League of Ireland champions were beaten 2-0 by Floriana in their opening game of the competition, but got revenge with a 5-1 victory on home soil.

Ararat-Armenia were also far from perfect in their opening tie, as they failed to build on a 2-0 home win, losing 3-2 to Riga away from home.

Neither team is expected to secure a spot in the League Phase, but an entertaining game looks to be on the cards.

Team News

Ararat-Armenia midfielder Balanta Jr is expected to miss out through injury, but manager Tulipa has no other injury concerns ahead of kick-off.

Sandro Lima should lead the line, while he will be supported by Zhirayr Shaghoyan and Artur Serobyan.

Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley has a few selection headaches to contend with, as Rory Gaffney remains sidelined with an ankle problem, while the game is expected to come too soon for Daniel Mandroiu, who is struggling to shake off a knock.

Muscle injuries have sidelined Danny Grant and Victor Ozhianvuna.

The stats

Ararat-Armenia won the Armenian Premier League last season, having earned 60 points from 27 games. Tulipa's side only lost three times in the league and they have only lost three of their last 20 matches on home soil.

Shamrock Rovers have been inconsistent on their travels, losing four of their last eight matches.

The Irish side have lost two in 11 matches in all competitions.

Both teams to score has landed in four of Ararat-Armenia's last six matches.

Shamrock Rovers have seen both teams score in 10 of their last 15 games.

Prediction

A trip to Armenia is far from ideal for Shamrock Rovers, who lost 2-0 to Floriana in their last away game in the competition.

They may not have what it takes to pick up a win, but having scored nine goals in two games, they look to have rediscovered their form in front of goal.

Ararat-Armenia were able to keep a clean sheet against Riga at home, but away from home they shipped three to the Latvian outfit.

Shamrock are a better team than Riga and they should be able to score past an Ararat-Armenia defence that has conceded in four of their last six matches.
