Tottenham star duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero could move to Real Madrid together

Should Tottenham be relegated from the Premier League this season, Real Madrid will look to sign both starting centre-backs, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, according to a report.
Spurs are staring down the barrel of Premier League relegation. They've been precariously placed for a while, but after West Ham beat Wolves at the weekend and Tottenham lost to Sunderland, the north London club are officially in the drop zone, two points from safety.
Reports for some time have suggested that Van de Ven and Romero will be two of the first players out the door in the event of relegation, and a Fichajes report suggests those fears could be realised.
Indeed, the Spanish outlet reports that Real Madrid have their sights set on both starting Tottenham centre-backs for if they're relegated and could make an ambitious double move.
Should Spurs be relegated, it's known that some of their best players would look to leave, and the club might have to sell some.
Further to that, the report suggests a restructure would mean players would be available for a lower price than they would usually be.
But there's a catch in pursuit of Romero. Firstly, a clash in Tottenham's last game has put him out for the season and it's believed there's a chance he misses the World Cup.
As such, clubs taking a chance on a player who hasn't played for months might be unlikely.
Romero has a release clause
Beyond that, it seems there's no way anybody would be able to lure Romero away for a low fee, as his father, Victor, recently revealed there's a release clause in his deal, though the exact price is not known.
Romero Sr said: “He has two [three] more years on his contract with Tottenham and a very high release clause.
“The English club isn’t going to let him go for free; it’s between $50-70m [£37.8m-£53m].
“For me, they’ll want to recover what they invested.”
Were he available on the cheap, then even if he misses the World Cup, there might have been sides willing to swoop in for Romero, knowing that when he's back to full fitness, they'll have a very important defender in their ranks.
But clubs paying a high release clause for a player who might miss the end of the season and the World Cup after that, meaning he could take some time to get up to speed, might be unlikely.
Romero has been reported as the favourite to reinforce the Real defence, so the current situation is a pretty difficult one for him if he doesn't get back up to speed before the World Cup.
