Tottenham have set a price for centre-back Cristian Romero, but that could shift if they face 'serious pressure' on his sale, reports Caught Offside.

Spurs will be without crucial centre-back Romero for the rest of the season. When he's been on form, the Argentine has been one of the very most important players in north London during his time there.

But after sustaining an injury which will keep him out for the rest of the campaign, he might have played his last game for Tottenham, with clubs such as Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid said to be circling.

Amid financial pressure and a battle to retain Premier League status - Spurs are one point off the first safe side West Ham - Romero's future is now uncertain.

Indeed, Caught Offside states Tottenham's leadership are open to offers, particularly 'as part of a wider financial reset.'

As a result, it's reported they would accept offers between €60-65million (£52.2-56.6m), a reflection of both Romero's long contract - until 2029 - and his quality.

However, both the financial situation at Spurs and whether they can retain their league status could influence that valuation.

The report states that if Tottenham face 'serious pressure, the asking price could shift.'

Atletico, Real and Manchester United are among the clubs named in the report with interest in Romero, with his Premier League experience an attractive asset to the Red Devils.

Romero's father revealed release clause

There are differing opinions on Romero's release clause - if it does in fact exist, the report seems to suggest Tottenham might be forced to accept offers below it.

But the Spurs man's own father, Victor, stated of late that there is a clause, but he wasn't able to give exact details on it.

"He has two [three] more years on his contract with Tottenham and a very high release clause.

“The English club won’t let him leave for free; it’s between $50-70m [£37.8m-£53m]. For me, they’ll want to recover what they invested.”

The lower end of that scale would not be a difficult sum for a big club to drum up, and should Spurs' situation be worse in the summer than they find themselves in now, it might be that they have to accept an offer around that.
