Manchester City are now in pole position to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson this summer after the England international snubbed a move to Manchester United, reports The Mirror.

Anderson is a wanted man ahead of the transfer window opening later this year having enjoyed a stunning season for the Tricky Trees.

Not only has Anderson become one of the most sought after players in the division, but his form at club level has seen the midfielder cement his spot for the national team.

The Midlands side are expected to cash in on the midfielder having insisted Anderson wasn’t for sale at any price in January.

And while the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal were linked with a move for the 23-year-old, the England star was expected to be at the centre of a transfer tug-of-war between the two Manchester giants.

Cityzens keen to wrap up Anderson deal

It now looks as though City will win the race to sign Anderson with the Premier League title rivals in pole position to complete the £65m signing of the former Newcastle man.

City are keen to get the deal wrapped up as soon as possible in order to avoid a potential spike in his value should Anderson shine at the 2026 World Cup.

Anderson is expected to line up alongside Declan Rice in Thomas Tuchel’s favoured 4-2-3-1 setup in football’s showpiece event in North America.

City tipped for active summer

City are set to be active in the market this summer as they gear up to replace a number of star players with Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Nathan Ake all set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Both Silva and Stones are out of contract later this year, while Ake has a little over a year left to run on his current deal.

The Dutchman is supposedly on AC Milan’s radar, with the Rosseneri tipped to firm up their interest in Ake when the transfer window opens.
