Kansas City Chiefs vs. Buffalo Bills Preview, Predictions, and How to Watch

In what has become a must-see annual matchup, the Kansas City Chiefs will hit the road to take on the Buffalo Bills for the tenth time in the last five years. Not only do the Chiefs currently lead the Bills 5-4 in head-to-head matchups since 2020, but KC is 4-0 against Buffalo in the playoffs during the Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen era.
“Every game is different. Every year is different. Everything presents itself in a different way,” Bills quarterback Josh Allen said during an October 29th press conference. “Nothing that happened last year, the year before, or the year before that carries over or matters this week. They’ve got a lot of guys that returned from last year's squad, but they've got some new guys. They're doing some different things. We're doing some different things. But at the end of the day, we've got to come out and play the best football that we can play.”
If the Bills want any shot at winning this game, they are going to have to contain Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is second in the league in passing yards (2,099), tied for third in QBR (76.3), and tied for first in passing TDs (17). He killed Buffalo in the playoffs last year with 43 rushing yards, 245 passing yards, and three total TDs.
“He is who he is. He's an incredible player. He's had a huge impact on this league, and you see kids wearing the jerseys,” Bills head coach Sean McDermott said of Mahomes. “You see kids wearing Josh's jersey, and when you grow up watching players like Josh and like Patrick, they impact their communities, and they impact the world really because of who they are and how they do things. [I] certainly [have] a ton of respect for him.”
As one would expect, the Bills are not going to let the past haunt them. Josh Allen is only worried about winning this weekend and not harping on last year's shortcomings.
"They've gotten our number in the playoffs a few times, and we understand that,” Allen said. “But again, we're just focused on trying to go 1-0 this week in the 2025 season.”
This matchup will be really tough for the Kansas City Chiefs, who have to go on the road on a short week and play arguably their biggest rival of the last ten years.
“Everyone deals with it. Obviously, we're going up against a great football team, but that's part of playing in the NFL,” Patrick Mahomes said on Wednesday. “You have to be able to be ready for sudden changes like that. Or that could happen to you in the playoffs. So [it’s] another opportunity to be on a short week against a great football team, and [you] see how your team responds… I'm just excited to get to go up again and play in a big game in a great environment.”
Regardless of where the game is being held, these two always play each other closely. The average margin of victory in the last six matchups between the Bills and the Chiefs has been under 4.7 points.
“We know they're a good football team. There's a lot of history between the two teams over the last few years,” Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters. “It's been a good battle every time that we have an opportunity to play each other. Sean (McDermott) does a great job with that crew, and he's got a very good coaching staff and good players.”
What will be key for KC will be stopping Buffalo's offense, which just put up 40 points in Week Eight.
“Their offense is special, and obviously the quarterback is one of the best in the league at what he does,” Andy Reid said. “He's got a great surrounding crew starting up front and moving on back… They're just an all-around good football team. There's not a whole lot of weaknesses there.”
Prediction for Kansas City Chiefs (-2) @ Buffalo Bills
This is one of the toughest games of the season to predict because both of these teams are so evenly matched. The Chiefs are red hot right now, but the Bills will always look at this game as their most important regular-season matchup as long as Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen are under center. Add on the fact that this game will be played in Buffalo, and it feels like the Bills will find a way to squeak past the Chiefs this weekend.
Prediction: Bills 30 - 29 Chiefs
