The group stage of the World Cup is finally in the books and 32 teams will now battle it out for the trophy over the next few weeks.
There were plenty of shocks throughout the group stages, with the likes of Uruguay and Turkiye failing to reach the knockout stages, while South Africa and Cape Verde made history by qualifying out of their groups.
Ahead of the knockout stages, we have predicted the winners of each tie and who makes it into the last 16.

South Africa vs Canada (Sunday, 8pm)
After their opening defeat to Mexico, qualifying for the knockout stages looked a long way off for South Africa. To their credit they bounced back, drawing with Czech Republic before securing a 1-0 win over South Korea to seal second place in their group.
Canada had to settle for second behind Switzerland. History has been made, however, and Jesse Marsch will be determined to steer his side into the next round.
Score prediction: South Africa 0–2 Canada
Brazil vs Japan (Monday, 6pm)
This could be one of the best ties of the round. Brazil topped their group with two wins and a draw, while Japan showed plenty of attacking intent across their three games, scoring seven goals.
The Brazilians might just have the edge in this one, although it could be a tight affair.
Score prediction: Brazil 2–1 Japan
Germany vs Paraguay (Monday, 9.30pm)
This will be Germany’s first knockout tie since the 2014 final, while Paraguay reached the quarter-finals back in 2010 on their last appearance.
The Germans won two of their three group games and looked impressive in the final third. As such, Julian Nagelsmann’s side should have too much firepower for the South Americans.
Score prediction: Germany 3–0 Paraguay
Netherlands vs Morocco (Tuesday, 2am)
Another contender for one of the matches of the round. The Netherlands emerged from the group stage unbeaten while Morocco finished second behind Brazil on goal difference.
It will be a shame to see one of these sides go home early and this match has the potential to go the full distance.
Score prediction: Netherlands 1–1 Morocco (Netherlands to win on penalties)
Ivory Coast vs Norway (Tuesday, 6pm)
Norway made 10 changes to face France, effectively settling for second in the group, and a clash against the Ivory Coast is the upshot.
The Elephants finished second behind Germany, but came close to defeating their European opponents having taken the lead.
This one will be close, but with Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard back in the starting XI, expect the Norwegians to seal progress into the next round.
Score prediction: Ivory Coast 1-2 Norway
France vs Sweden (Tuesday, 10pm)
France defeated Norway 4-1 to seal top spot in the group and set up a last-32 tie with Sweden.
The Swedes impressed in their opener against Tunisia, before suffering a heavy defeat against the Netherlands. A 1-1 draw with Japan set up this clash against the tournament favourites.
Score prediction: France 3–1 Sweden
Mexico vs Ecuador (Wednesday, 2am)
Mexico won their group which means their round-of-32 clash with Ecuador will take place in Mexico City.
This home advantage could be vital. Ecuador failed to score across the opening two matches, but then surprisingly defeated Germany 2-1 to book a spot in the knockout stages.
Score prediction: Mexico 2–1 Ecuador
England vs DR Congo (Wednesday, 5pm)
England have been solid, if unspectacular, in the World Cup so far, scoring six goals across their three games.
DR Congo made history by sealing their first-ever World Cup win against Uzbekistan which secured third in the group to set up a clash against Thomas Tuchel's men.
While the Leopards will make it tough, England should have enough quality to advance.
Score prediction: England 2–0 DR Congo

Belgium vs Senegal (Wednesday, 9pm)
Belgium struggled in their opening two matches, but the floodgates opened against New Zealand, sealing a 5-1 victory.
Senegal needed a big win against Iraq and duly delivered, sealing eighth place on the list of best third-place sides, and their run may not yet be over.
Score prediction: Belgium 2–2 Senegal (Senegal to win on penalties)
USA vs Bosnia and Herzegovina (Thursday, 1am)
USA may have ended the group stage with a defeat, but there have been plenty of promising signs that they can go deep in the competition.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men scored eight goals and will fancy their chances in San Francisco, with the Dragons having finished third in Canada's group.
Score prediction: USA 3–1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Spain vs Austria (Thursday, 8pm)
Spain won their group thanks to a 1-0 win over Uruguay in their final match and this sets up a clash with Austria.
Austria have reached the knockout stages of the World Cup for the first time since 1982, although their tournament will end here. Spain should win this one fairly comfortably.
Score prediction: Spain 2–0 Austria
Portugal vs Croatia (Friday, 12am)
Portugal moved into the last 32 having won just one of their three games in the group stages. A 5-0 win over Uzbekistan showcased their attacking abilities, but improvement is needed from now on.
Croatia bounced back from defeat against England to win their remaining two matches and claim second. This one looks a tight contest and could be settled by a single goal.
Score prediction: Portugal 1–0 Croatia
Switzerland vs Algeria (Friday, 4am)
Switzerland’s win over Canada should give them confidence that a deep run in the tournament can be achieved.
Algeria sealed one of the best third-place spots to reach the knockout stages of the World Cup for only the second time.
The Swiss are riding a six-game unbeaten streak and can edge a tight affair.
Score prediction: Switzerland 1–0 Algeria
Australia vs Egypt (Friday, 7pm)
Australia have now reached the knockout stages in back-to-back World Cups, while Egypt made it out of the group stages for the first time.
The Socceroos have failed to score since stunning Turkiye in their opening match, while Egypt struggled to create chances against Iran after a goalkeeping error gifted them an early lead in their group finale.
A tense and nervy fair looks forthcoming and it could go all the way.
Score prediction: Australia 0–0 Egypt (Australia to win on penalties)
Argentina vs Cape Verde (Friday, 11pm)
Argentina made it through the group stages with three wins from three, setting up a clash against World Cup debutants Cape Verde.
In what is arguably the story of the tournament so far, the Blue Sharks drew all three of their games to seal second in a group including Spain and Uruguay.
Lionel Messi and Co will end the fairy-tale journey here, however.
Score prediction: Argentina 3–0 Cape Verde
Colombia vs Ghana (Saturday, 2.30am)
Colombia topped their group to set up a meeting with Ghana, with the winner facing either Switzerland or Algeria.
Los Cafeteros had a late goal disallowed against Portugal, but still topped the group and have looked impressive so far.
Ghana, who held England but then lost to Croatia to slip to third in Group L, reached the quarter-finals in 2010 but look set to fall short of that run against Luis Diaz and Co.
Score prediction: Colombia 2–1 Ghana
