The Netherlands will be aiming to secure qualification to the World Cup knockout stages in style when they take on already-eliminated Tunisia in their final Group F match at Kansas City Stadium during the early hours of Friday morning.

Ronald Koeman's side may have been held to a draw by Japan in their group opener, but they hit their stride in some style against Sweden, claiming an emphatic 5-1 success.

A point will be enough to guarantee Oranje a place in the round of 32, but, with top spot on the line, they are unlikely to show any mercy against a Tunisia side that have had a tournament to forget.

The Eagles of Carthage fired head coach Sabri Lamouchi after they opened with a 5-1 defeat to the Swedes, but there was no immediate uplift under his successor, Herve Renard, as they were then beaten 4-0 by Japan.

That all means Tunisia have nothing but pride to play for in Kansas City, as they bid to avoid the ignominy of being the first side to lose three matches at the same World Cup by four or more goals.

Team news

Tunisia have no injury concerns to contend with ahead of this game, but Renard is expected to ring the changes both in terms of personnel and tactically, including swapping from a five-man defence to a back four.

Ismael Gharbi, Mohamed Amine Ben Hamida and Firas Chaouat are among the players that could come into the starting XI.

The Netherlands will hope to welcome midfielder Quinten Timber back into the fold after he missed the Sweden win due to concussion protocols.

Brian Brobbey came into the team for that game and he will hope to keep his place after scoring a brace, although he also picked up a knock and will have to be assessed.

The stats

Tunisia have only won one of their last nine matches and have lost four on the bounce, conceding at least four goals in each of their last three games.

The Eagles of Carthage have only won three of their 20 previous matches at World Cup finals, although their sole victory over European opposition at the tournament came in a 1-0 success against France in 2022.

The Dutch have only lost one of their last 18 matches excluding penalty shootouts, but their sole defeat during that run did come against North African opposition – this month's 1-0 friendly defeat to Algeria.

Oranje have never lost a World Cup match against an African side (W4, D1) and they have claimed two wins and a draw from their three previous head-to-heads with Tunisia.

Excluding penalty shootouts, the Dutch have not lost a match at the World Cup since they were beaten by Spain in the 2010 final, a run of 14 games.

Prediction

The Netherlands need a point to guarantee their place in the knockout stages, but based on their attacking display against Sweden, along with Tunisia's terrible showing in their opening two matches, the Dutch should be able to let loose in Kansas City.

It has been a World Cup to forget for Tunisia, with the change in head coach having very little effect in their hammering by Japan.

The North Africans have conceded nine goals at the World Cup, but there were warning signs before the tournament even began, as they were thrashed 5-0 by Belgium in their final friendly.

Anything their neighbours can do, the Netherlands will hope to at least match and based on what both of these teams have shown at the World Cup so far, Koeman's team can score a minimum of four goals.
