Steven Gerrard 'sitting by the phone' as Liverpool legend waits for Arne Slot sack

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard is 'sitting by the phone' awaiting the call from his former side to become their 'emergency boss' for the rest of the season, reports Indy Kaila.
The Reds' Premier League title defence started with five wins on the spin, but they quickly began to pick up losses as their gung-ho method of simply trying to outscore their opposition unravelled.
In the league so far this term, Arne Slot's side have been dealt nine losses, and though they sit fifth in the table, they're in the thick of a battle for Champions League football, sandwiched between quality outfits Aston Villa and Chelsea.
There have been suggestions of pressure on the Dutch boss for months, as the armour of his side continues to be pierced, and allowing Tottenham back in on Sunday will not help matters.
Liverpool were 1-0 up against the relegation-threatened Spurs side - who had lost their last six games in all competitions - from the 18th minute until the 90th, when Richarlison found himself free in the box to finish and gain a point.
The suggestion remains that Slot is safe, but should Liverpool decide to go in a different direction in hopes they can supercharge the back end of their season, legendary former midfielder Gerrard is waiting in the wings.
Insider account Indy Kaila writes that Gerrard is 'sitting by the phone right now... desperately waiting' for a call from Liverpool to 'swoop in as emergency boss until the end of the season.'
Indeed, it's said he's ready to 'drop everything' to save his former club.
Gerrard not a rousing option
Though the hire of a club legend may initially placate fans, Gerrard is not the rousing choice that it was felt he might become at some point.
His last completed season in Saudi Arabia saw his Al-Ettifaq side finish sixth in the division, and during his last assignment in English management, he finished 14th in the Premier League with Aston Villa and was sacked with them not having improved following on from that.
If the last couple of tries haven't been successful, it's fair to question whether a move to an already struggling Liverpool would be any different.
Slot feels supported
Whether this has changed since the Tottenham game, beforehand, current Reds boss Slot detailed the support he is feeling from the club.
He said: "This might sound weird if I say only positive [things], because this season has not been only positive"
"The support I have always felt – not talking about social media I don’t follow that much – but the support I have felt from the home crowd, away crowd, people inside the building, the ownership.
"What we have done here together to achieve the things we have achieved, is in my head and memory only very special.
"We are struggling now, that is also very obvious. This is probably the nicest club to struggle [with]. This club has always shown in different periods, everyone is there for you. You try even harder.
"It is a fantastic club to work because of the facilities, people, fans. It is not all negative when we don’t have the performances we want.
"It is still a great place to be. Even better if you win the league. Even in a season like this, it is still a privilege."
