Tottenham are one of three Premier League clubs currently vying to sign Chelsea striker Liam Delap, reports insider Ben Jacobs.

Spurs are on the quest to improve their squad so they aren't in danger of Premier League relegation again last season, after finishing 17th on the final day last term. They've so far signed defenders Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, and are looking higher up the pitch, too.

There's speculation over moves both on the wing and up top, and one of the strikers reported to be on their list is Chelsea's Delap.

The Englishman failed in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, scoring just once in 28 Premier League appearances, as he never came close to the form shown by No 1 option Joao Pedro.

There have been suggestions that Chelsea will allow him to leave, and Jacobs states Spurs are one of the clubs who could look to capitalise.

He said: “I think that Liam Delap could be one to watch from Chelsea, another club that Tottenham wouldn’t normally do too much business with.

“Newcastle, Everton, Tottenham, the three clubs that like Delap.

"Before we can clarify whether anything is going to develop there, Delap wants to stay and fight for his place, so he’s going to understand where he is in this pecking order, with Joao Pedro number one under Xabi Alonso, who is going to be the number two striker?

“Is it still going to be Delap? Is it alternatively going to be Nico Jackson, who’s coming back from a loan spell at Bayern? I think unlikely, but Jackson wants pre-season to see if he can change the new manager’s mind.

“Once all that falls into place, if Delap is available on the market, Newcastle, Everton and Tottenham are the three Premier League clubs I’m hearing.”

Tottenham goals in 2025-26

Delap doesn't seem he'd be an upgrade for Tottenham after scoring just once in the Premier League last term, but not many of their forwards did an awful lot better.

Richarlison was the club's top scorer in last season's Premier League, with 11 goals, and nobody else in the squad managed more than 10.

Forwards Mathys Tel, Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani scored four, three and one goal respectively, with both Tel and Kolo Muani featuring in 30 or more games.

Should Delap rediscover the form he showed for Ipswich in his debut Premier League season, when he scored 12 goals, he'd be a good addition to the Tottenham squad, but the question is if he can do that.
