  • Chelsea have won four games in a row in all competitions

  • Sunderland are seventh in the Premier League after beating Wolves

  • Recommended bet: Over 4.5 Sunderland keeper saves

Sunderland have surely surpassed all their dreams on their return to the Premier League so far, and will be confident they can prevent their trip to Chelsea from turning into a nightmare.

The Black Cats are seventh in the table after last week's 2-0 win over Wolves but will have to bring their defensive A game to Stamford Bridge where Chelsea have come to life.

Team news

Malo Gusto, sent off in last Saturday's 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest, is suspended for the hosts.

Moises Caicedo is expected to come back into the midfield but Chelsea do have plenty of injuries with Cole Palmer, Liam Delap and Levi Colwill are among the players still out.

Sunderland can welcome left-back Reinildo back after a three-game ban but Regis Le Bris may find it hard to break up a winning defence.

He may, however, opt for five at the back rather than four which could offer Reinildo a slot at left wing-back.

The stats

Chelsea have won their last two league games and found the net in each of their last 11 matches in all competitions.

Sunderland keeper Robin Roefs has an 81% saves made return (25 saves from 32 attempts), second only behind Arsenal's David Raya in the division.

Only Manchester City (34) have earned more home points than Chelsea (33) over the course of 2025.

Each of Sunderland's last five games have produced two goals or less with their eight top-flight fixtures going at 1.9 goals per time.

Prediction

It has been a pretty much perfect last month for Chelsea, who should be confident they can extend their winning run in all competitions to five games.

After the week the Blues have had, following up a 3-0 win at Nottingham Forest in the Premier League with a 5-1 demolition of Ajax in the Champions League, they are understandably favourites at home to see off Sunderland.

Indeed, their previous home league game was a 2-1 win over champions Liverpool so that is the measure of the obstacle facing Sunderland.

Not that Le Bris' men will feel daunted by the task given the start they have made to the season.

However, they look limited on their travels with only one goal scored in four away games and they are nearly always indebted to keeper Roefs for keeping them in matches.

Roefs has already made 25 saves in his eight outings and the chances are his skills will be tested once more in West London.

Realistically, the visitors are going to be seriously under the cosh on Saturday with Roefs having to make at least five saves appealing at odds of 23/20.
