Arsenal may have seen their lead at the top of the Premier League reduced to just two points by the time they welcome Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

The Gunners are coming under increased pressure from Manchester City in the title race and their rivals could turn up the heat even further, if they win at Leeds in Saturday's evening kick-off.

Chelsea are facing their own battle as they bid to secure a top-five finish which would likely be enough to see them qualify for next season's Champions League.

Team news

Arsenal have reported no fresh injury concerns ahead of this clash and there are hopes that Max Dowman and Kai Havertz can play some part after recent layoffs.

Chelsea will be boosted by the availability of captain Reece James, who has shaken off the knock he picked up in the recent draw with Burnley, while Romeo Lavia is back in training following a thigh complaint.

Estevao, Jamie Gittens and Marc Cucurella will have to wait a little longer to make their returns from hamstring issues, as will Dario Essugo, who is recovering from an unspecified problem.

The stats

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 10 meetings with Chelsea and have only lost one of the last 15 meetings between the two sides.

The Gunners have an impressive recent record in London derbies, losing just one of their last 25 league matches against teams that are also from the capital.

Mikel Arteta's side conceded only three goals across their opening 10 top-flight fixtures this season, but they have shipped 18 in as many matches since.

Chelsea are winless in eight Premier League games against Arsenal since a 2-0 success at the Emirates in August 2021.

The Blues have failed to score in just two of their last 41 fixtures across all competitions.

Prediction

A run of two wins in seven Premier League games had threatened to derail Arsenal's title push, but they returned to form in style with last weekend's resounding north London derby success over Tottenham and they can follow up by seeing off another of their rivals on Sunday.

The Gunners certainly appear to have something of a hoodoo over Chelsea, as they are unbeaten across the last 10 meetings and won home and away against the Blues in the Carabao Cup semi-finals just last month.

However, Arsenal's defensive resilience from earlier in the season has deserted them somewhat, as they have conceded in 12 of their last 18 top-flight games, including in each of their last three.

Chelsea are certainly a team that tends to score, failing to do so just twice in 41 matches across all competitions — a run that stretches back to August — and they can keep that sequence going in north London, but that should not stop Arsenal from coming out on top.
