Manchester United midfield target Ederson has told media that his move to the club is "practically all done."

United lost Casemiro at the end of his contract, dropping their senior midfield corps to four players. That includes Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount, who have both struggled for form during their time at the club.

As such, the signings of two new midfielders has been the priority at the club this summer.

For weeks, United have been edging closer to a deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson. Personal terms were sorted a while back and his medical was reported to have been scheduled around a week ago, in New Yorlk, with the midfielder away at the World Cup with Brazil.

Ederson himself has told Sky Italy that his move is all but done.

He said: It’s practically all done. But I have to take advantage of this moment. I’m here [at the World Cup], it’s a beautiful thing that must be enjoyed to the fullest.”

Ederson has played only nine minutes across Brazil's two World Cup games so far, with the nation harbouring a lot of midfield talent, though he'll be hopeful of more minutes so he can head into his first United campaign in good form.

United linked with multiple midfielders

Ederson is likely to be one of at least two new midfielders signed at Old Trafford this summer, and there are some big names on the radar alongside him.

Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Elliot Anderson are some of the players most heavily linked at the moment.

Anderson looks more likely to head to rivals Manchester City, though, while there's a lot of interest in Tonali, in the Premier League and beyond.

Fernandes could well be the second midfielder United sign, as it's recently been reported the club have agreed personal terms with the West Ham man.

The Hammers are holding firm on their £80million valuation, meaning United are likely to pay over £100million for two new stars.

Indeed, Ederson is expected to cost them £35million, so if Fernandes is indeed as expensive as billed, the pair will cost a total of £115million.

Michael Carrick's side still want to improve in other positions beyond that, but midfield is the priority, so spending bug bucks there makes sense.
